Job Description

Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®) provides essential services that remove barriers, strengthen families, and promote healing when children need healthcare. RMHC strives to be part of the solution to issues challenging families today. Families are challenged with how to stay near and support a hospitalized child; how to afford staying together in another city while a child is undergoing treatment; or even getting basic medical and dental care in underserved communities. We use our resources and partnerships in the community to help families gain access to healthcare services and keep families together during critical points in their children's lives.

Position Purpose:

The Development team is responsible for the creation and execution of the organization’s global fundraising strategies. The team is responsible for an average $20 million in philanthropic funds and investments annually. Cash and in-kind donations are secured through an array of tactics including: major gift acquisition and stewardship; individual donor campaigns; planned gifts; foundation grants; corporate partnerships; and cause related marketing campaigns.

Principle Accountabilities:

The Individual Giving Specialist will serve as a key member of the Development team, with a focus on supporting the Individual Giving efforts on cultivation and stewardship deliverables. This person will serve as the liaison for individuals contacting the organization to inquire about philanthropic opportunities, providing clear and timely service to help drive support for RMHC Global. This person will also assist in the execution of successful mid-level and major gift strategies, including prospect research, proposal development, administrative support, and stewardship of individual donors.

Support of gift officer team (50%):

  • Support the development of the vision, strategy and comprehensive relationship with individual donors to RMHC as directed by the gift officer.
  • Partner with relationship manager(s) to implement personalized individual donor cultivation and stewardship plan, working with internal colleagues and external partners on deliverables.
  • Assist the Individual Giving team by leading the administrative and logistical efforts needed to advance individual donor relationships through the donor cycle.
  • Arrange meetings with staff, donors, prospects and others as requested by team leadership this includes scheduling and maintaining a calendar of appointments, meetings, and itineraries.
  • Support team to develop, manage and steward existing individual donor relationships, including members of the Ray Kroc Heritage Society, Lifetime Trustees, Board members, and donors currently giving $10,000 or more annually.
  • Draft strategically aligned cultivation and stewardship communication for donors.
  • Serve as a secondary point of contact for individual donors and prospects, addressing inquiries, providing support, and ensuring a positive and mutually beneficial partnership experience.

Donor Services Support (30%):

  • Respond promptly to email inquiries from donors and the general public, including requests for gift receipt documentation, changes in communications preferences, or information about specific RMHC programs and Chapters.
  • Field donor requests regarding gift administration, tribute giving, gift designation and other areas of concern.
  • Triage inquiries and partnership requests by routing to appropriate RMHC Global colleagues or RMHC Local Chapter Leadership.
  • Maintain and update list of donors requesting to be removed from RMHC contact list.
  • Track follow-up activity and completion of inquiries.

Department, Support, Data Management and Prospect Research (20%):

  • Maintain database ensuring moves management, the accuracy of donor profiles, prospect information, mailing lists, memberships, and other records.
  • Research and identify prospective donors using various search methods and software to assist in the cultivation of new relationships.
  • Gather, research, synthesize, and analyze data and information to prepare stewardship reports across a variety of topics that can be presented to donors. This includes the development and execution of surveys in partnership with the RMHC system.
  • Coordinate the execution of gift agreements in partnership with the RMHC Finance team and RMHC legal counsel.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Team to track and manage incoming pledge payments as part of gift agreements and donor invoices. This includes managing Chapter disbursements when applicable.

Qualifications

The Individual Giving Specialist must be a great teammate and possess strong interpersonal skills along with a desire to help others succeed. Key knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience
  • 2+years of experience in development preferred
  • Experience working with nuanced, national, or global organizations that have local affiliates preferred
  • Energy and passion for the RMHC mission
  • Ability to manage complex deadlines and progress across the team to ensure various projects are delivered on time and meet the donor expectations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and provide exceptional customer service to diverse audiences including donors, prospective donors and staff.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, messaging, and oral communications skills, including the ability to make presentations, both verbal and written
  • Knowledgeable in current philanthropic trends, data and other philanthropy-focused information.
  • Interest in ongoing learning and skill development
  • Excellent listening skills and ability to elicit feedback
  • Outstanding organizational and project management skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
  • Experience with CRM tools such as Salesforce preferred.
  • Able and willing to travel and work a variable schedule when necessary
