Blast Motion is a leading innovator in sensor based 3D motion tracking technologies that enables concurrent assessment and player development for sports science and biomechanical analysis applications. Our solutions utilize advanced biomechanical-based algorithms to quantify the underlying coordination and control patterns of an athlete along with the resultant performance outcomes. Coaches and players are provided objective feedback around motion-specific key performance indicators (KPI). The end result is accelerated player development through direct biofeedback loops that allows the athletes to functionally improve performance.


Blast Motion is committed to pushing the boundaries of sports performance by delivering a wearable technology solution that provides actionable insights and direct performance feedback in a completely portable solution that can either replace or augment the use of much more expensive technology solutions such as high-speed optical camera systems and force plates. This allows a wearable technology solution that can simultaneously be used across an entire professional sports organization or by aspiring athletes of all ages and skill levels to improve rapidly and have fun in the process.


Blast Motion is a mid-staged startup based in beautiful San Marcos, CA in a state of the art facility including a sports science and usability lab and state of the art optical machine vision system.


General Position Summary


Manufacturing Electrical Test Engineer: Responsible for development of creating a electrical production functional test system for Blast Motion’s next generation motion sensor utilizing National Instruments test hardware / Test Stand software. Additional responsibilities would include maintaining and modernizing the existing production test process. Must be able to design electrical test fixture, create test plans, write test software, implementation and execution of manual and automated tests, analyzing test output, and create / review technical documentation. Responsible for training and all facets of product transition from development, pre-production to high volume production at a contract manufacturer.


Key Duties and Responsibilities


  • Development of a production electrical functional test fixture for Blast Motion’s next generation motion sensor
  • Maintain and modernize the existing production test software process
  • Generate test plans and procedures to be used to verify product and feature requirements
  • Develop software and maintain databases used within manufacturing process
  • Drive contract manufacturer to successfully execute all phases of production and product testing
  • Design and develop test automation, lead effort from NPI to production implementation
  • Participate in technical system requirements and design reviews
  • Drive continuous process improvement strategies to improve first pass yield and throughput
  • Provide support for regulatory and certification test efforts


Educational / Training / Job Related Experience Required


  • BS Degree in either Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of related work experience.
  • Able to write software programs for manufacturing process
  • Experience with National Instruments Test Stand, RF, Python, C, and C++
  • Additional experience with the following is a plus: Objective-C, Swift, Java, and ASP.NET
  • Experience with working National Instruments test systems, MacOS, Windows, Linux, IOS, and Andriod environment
  • Proficient with various test equipment required to perform testing: Oscilloscope, Bluetooth analyzer, RF analyzer, power supplies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate problems to management for rapid resolution
  • High volume consumer electronics manufacturing expertise is preferred
