Job Title: Safety Manager
Status: Full-Time Non-Exempt
Reports To: Human Resources Director
SUMMARY: Safety Manager will lead comprehensive safety and wellness process using a proactive approach. Creating a safety culture where safety and well-being is the #1 priority.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leads a caring safety culture that is focused on people, which influences and motivates others.
- Creates and implements processes necessary to ensure a safe working environment – every shift, every day.
- Lead programs, training, and messaging to recognize, reward and promote safe behaviors.
- Inspects the facility to identify safety, health, and environmental risks.
- Develops and implements inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of routine inspections.
- Drive strong accountability with leaders to be role models of safe behaviors.
- Monitors compliance and apprised on trends and best practices with safety procedures.
- Creates inspection reports to document inspection findings.
- Ensures that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
- Conducts safety meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow up assessments.
- Plans, implements, and conducts preventative care, safety, and compliance training programs.
- Plans, implements, manages, and maintains comprehensive environmental safety & health programs on premises.
- Collaborates with management to develop an Emergency Action Plan and serve as primary contact for project site injury and incident notification, investigation, and case management. Maintains a written log of safety inspection activities, reports, and correspondence.
- Work collaboratively with management on all decisions related to injuries, leaves, reasonable accommodations/return to work, discipline and leave case management.
- Strong sense of urgency around communication and proactive approach to issues and concerns.
- Guarantees that all work is performed in accordance with approved manuals, internal policies and procedures, and good practices.
- Participates in team meetings and provides regular on-site presence.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Must be able to interact with employees, customers and visitors on the phone and in person with a high degree of tact, diplomacy, and professionalism. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel and Word. Must be detail oriented and maintain a high level of accuracy. Organized punctual self-starter able to work in a fast-paced environment. Must be a team-player who is approachable and shows genuine concern for co-workers.

- Effectively communicate both written and verbally.

- Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum three years related experience of equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bachelors degree in Occupational Safety and Health, or related field preferred;
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions and exercise independent judgment. Ability to develop business correspondence. Experience with editing and proofreading required. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS and PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
A workweek in excess of 40 hours may be required from time to time. While performing the job the employee will occasionally be required to move about throughout multiple locations, some of which may have tight spaces. The employee will need the ability to observe in detail and position themselves to inspect machinery and other hazardous areas. On occasion may be required to ascend and descend stairways for inspection of areas. Employee will frequently push, pull, lift items weighing up to 25 lbs.
