Operating Room Materials Manager

Type: Full-Time, Permanent (Onsite, Monday to Friday)

Location: Lewes, DE or Billings, MT (One position available at each location)

Relocation: Available for qualified candidates


Overview:

The Operating Room Materials Manager is a pivotal role within a two-hospital system that includes two surgery centers. Both hospitals have over 10 operating rooms, and this newly created position is responsible for overseeing all logistics and inventory management across these facilities. Reporting to the Director of Management Services, the successful candidate will sit within the supply chain offices, managing a team of four direct reports (including OR Supply Chain Supervisors and Cathodic EPIR Supervisors) and overseeing 18 indirect reports. This role requires substantial experience in OR inventory management, analytical skills, and the ability to build and execute a cohesive operational strategy.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Management: Develop and implement strategies to centralize and optimize the operating model across the hospital system's OR operations, ensuring efficiency in logistics and inventory management.
  • Analytical Oversight: Conduct detailed analyses of inventory usage, costs, and supply chain efficiency, using data to drive decisions and improvements in OR operations. Identify trends, forecast needs, and recommend cost-saving measures.
  • Team Leadership: Manage a team of 4 direct reports and 18 indirect reports, ensuring effective collaboration and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Operational Oversight: Although primarily focused on strategy and oversight, step into day-to-day operations when necessary, such as during staff absences.
  • Inventory Control: Lead and direct the management of OR inventory, including multimillion-dollar assets, ensuring that core inventory management practices are effectively applied.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Maintain strong communication with front-line resources, including nurses, physicians, and surgeons, to ensure the availability and efficient management of OR supplies.
  • Building and Connecting Operations: Work to connect end-users with the supply chain processes, building out operations and ensuring a seamless flow of inventory and materials.
  • Vendor Relations: Manage relationships with vendors, ensuring adherence to contractual agreements and efficient resolution of issues related to backorders, out-of-stock items, and other supply chain challenges.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain documentation and records to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in OR inventory management, with at least 2 years in a leadership role within a large operating room setting or a multi-hospital system. Experience managing multiple staff members in an acute care environment is essential.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
  • Deep understanding of core inventory management practices within an OR environment.
  • Proven ability to manage and direct large-scale inventory operations, including multimillion-dollar inventories.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in interacting with nurses, physicians, and surgeons.
  • Ability to build and execute strategic operational plans.


Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • OR Inventory Management: 7 years of experience within a healthcare/supply chain setting.
  • Management: 7 years of collective management experience.
