We have a position for a system engineer who has worked with large complex embedded controls systems in order to document how controls were implemented to meet California Air Resource Board (CARB) or Environment Protection Agency (EPA) regulations. This role will prepare the certification documentation to the regulatory agency (CARB/EPA).

What you will be doing:

  • Participate with groups in the development of positions regarding future OBD and SIR regulations
  • Participate in OBD Demonstration testing and document testing methods
  • Gaining understanding of current and future OBD requirements
  • Working in the development of strategic plans for the applicable markets
  • Participating in on-going interaction with the team members regarding progress and issues in the rule development processes
  • Supporting the On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) and SIR Regulatory Affairs activities
  • Developing and managing processes related to OBD and SIR for regulatory affairs, certification, and compliance. The worldwide need shall be considered in this work.
  • Provide support and regulatory compliance approval for CPS
  • Supporting Periodic Internal Audits of OBD and SIR processes
  • Working with the PC&C worldwide activities to help maintain the OBD and SIR Strategic Positions
  • Work with VPI and Functional Teams to:
    • Understand the regulatory requirements of EPA, CARB and Europe for 'On Board Diagnostics' and 'Service Information' regulations for Model Year 2013 and beyond engines
    • Ensure OBD and SIR rule summaries are current and known
    • Coordinate and ensure requirements are according to latest OBD regulations
    • Understand and ensure engine AECD and OBD strategies are consistent
  • Emission and OBD Testing for Certification
    • Understand the OBD and emission certification test procedures and unique cycle
    • Work with VPI and Functional teams to make sure these certification requirements are known
  • Provide Support for OBD and SIR
    • Respond to requests for engine OBD and SIR regulation clarifications
    • Maintain IO list
    • Support creation and updating of applicable training packages
  • Certification Documentation
    • Providing applications to CARB for product certification
    • Maintain and update process to improve efficiency of document compilation
    • Ensure quality of document is par to reduce review ambiguity and inaccuracies.
  • CCB Role for CDS Windchill RV&S Project
  • Attend Technical OBD reviews, assisting in translating Simulink files into OBDM files
  • Project owner: accept, assign, review, validate, track completion of DCRs done by team
  • Documenting process and requirements of role to assist in future trainings.

What you'll need to be successful:

  • College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer/Industrial/Mechanical Engineering or other relevant technical disciplines is required.
  • Experience with Matlab Simulink is highly preferred.
  • Fundamental understanding of the internal combustion engines and aftertreatment systems.
  • On the job engine testing, chassis dyno, or test cell experience with familiarity of data acquisition and instrumentation is preferred.
  • Experience in communicating and presenting technical content with external customers preferred.
  • Familiarity with on-highway emission legislation and requirements preferred.
