The role of an Operations Manager within the asphalt industry is multifaceted, focusing on both strategic and operational responsibilities. They are tasked with overseeing the division's activities, aligning them with the broader objectives set by the Area/Division Manager. This includes the implementation of the Integrated Management System to streamline processes and uphold quality standards. Additionally, the Operations Manager is responsible for the planning and execution of multiple projects, ensuring they are completed efficiently while adhering to the company's values and standards.


Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning - Collaborate with Area/Division Managers to set financial targets and operational goals.
  • Sales and Revenue Management - Engage in planning and directing sales strategies to enhance profitability and manage overhead costs effectively.
  • Performance Analysis - Regularly review operational data to gauge progress and adjust strategies as needed to meet objectives.
  • Leadership - Provide direction and leadership to ensure all operations align with company standards and project-specific requirements.
  • Quality Assurance - Uphold high-quality standards and implement process improvements to optimize operations.
  • Contract Management - Participate in the negotiation and management of contracts, ensuring compliance with all contractual obligations.
  • Resource Allocation - Efficiently schedule crew interventions and manage job preparations, including schedules and budgets.
  • Result-Oriented Collaboration - Work closely with managers and project leaders to define and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Operational Oversight - Oversee the execution of operations, ensuring adherence to the Integrated Management System (IMS) and company policies.


Qualifications

  • Required: 6+ years in heavy highway/civil construction management
  • Preferred: Knowledge of DOT regulations, with focus on roads, highways, interstates, and bridges
  • Essential: In-depth understanding of civil construction site operations
  • Desirable: Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Necessary: Experience with budgeting, cost control, scheduling, estimating, and project operations
  • Critical: Effective communication skills across all employee levels
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Excel, Primavera, and SAP software
