Engineering Manager

Location: Ithaca, NY

Pay: $120,000 to $130,000 Depending upon experience


Position summary:

The Engineering Supervisor applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. The individual makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods, leads Manufacturing Engineers, assigns, and prioritizes projects and tasks, and oversees the professional development of team members.


This includes representing the organization in conferences, resolving important questions, and to plan and coordinate work. Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods and quality control standards.


Key accountabilities:

  • Analyzes work requirements and outlines the schedules and methods to be followed for efficiency and safety.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and coaches the team on these for development and performance
  • Plans, develops, coordinates, and directs large and important engineering projects for a diverse team of engineers and technicians.
  • Coordinates and reviews teams of engineers’ work.
  • Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods.
  • Provides direction to team members in the design, construction, and operation of complex, sophisticated, state of the art systems, machinery, and equipment.
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements and related costs.
  • Confers with management and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, etc. to facilitate production processes.
  • Requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of their own field, related sciences, and disciplines.
  • Confers with suppliers and customers, both internal and external, to determine product specification and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts.
  • Works with the applicable stakeholders to analyze and plan work force utilization, space requirements, workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency and continuous improvement.


Education/Experience:

  • A Bachelor s degree in Engineering.
  • At least seven years of experience is preferred.
  • Must have solid broad-based production/technical knowledge.
  • Ability to handle multiple technical projects with shifting priorities.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to work well under pressure.
  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter with exemplary organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication ability.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interface with all levels of employees.
  • Proven ability to motivate and lead in a team environment.
