Seattle, United States Amazon Web Services (AWS) Full time

Amazon Web Services is currently looking to hire a System Development Engineer on a full time, permanent basis. This opportunity must be worked onsite in either Seattle, WA, Denver, CO, Herndon, VA, Arlington, VA, or Annapolis Junction, MD. This position requires an active TS/SCI w/ Full Scope Polygraph security clearance. Relocation assistance is available.

Title: System Development Engineer

Location: Seattle, WA or Denver, CO or Herndon, VA or Arlington, VA or Annapolis Junction, MD

Summary:

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

The ADC team is looking for seasoned DevOps engineers with CI/CD experience. As a member of the team, you will be exposed to an array of AWS services and technologies. Our Systems Development Engineers work in a fast-paced environment, coordinating with commercial service teams to deliver cutting-edge services for our customers. ADC team members own the scaling and management of the AWS Services - such as CodeDeploy, CodeBuild, and CodePipeline - across AWS regions supporting the US Government.

This position requires that the candidate selected currently possesses and maintains an active TS/SCI security clearance with a Full Scope Polygraph. The position further requires the candidate to opt into a commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.

We are looking for engineers passionate about both development and operations with a strong desire to learn. This is a true DevOps role; you will be both allowed and expected to follow problems all the way to the end, and work on implementing real solutions and not just quick fixes. Candidates who enjoy diving deep to understand how large, distributed systems work will excel in this position. The candidate will be expected to code in either python, java, ruby, or golang.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deploy operational tools to automate processes and reduce operational overhead
  • Work with other engineers to build and manage massively scaled services
  • Work with other engineers to diagnose and resolve customer issues
  • Track the health of our services, identify and fix problems on complex systems with massive scale
  • Collaborate with some of the leading minds in distributed systems

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 1+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems)
  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby
  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance of TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with distributed systems at scale
  • Experience working in an Agile environment using the Scrum methodology
  • Understand the principles behind CI/CD
