A new battery technology company in San Antonio is looking for a seasoned and a well-rounded lead embedded firmware / software engineer to develop and manage cutting-edge battery / energy management solutions.  The solutions require embedded programing that may include automating measurement and processing of various sensors, applying digital filters, applying predictive and machine learn algorithms, developing robust communication, and developing mesh networks.  The principal engineering role may also require the development of various bench validation automation and system GUI development. The candidate should be self-driven, detail-oriented, and capable of independently driving investigations and projects forward while maintaining operational excellence.


The principal engineer will have the opportunity to build and manage their own team, leading product firmware /software development. The principal firmware engineer will also collaborate on-site with an R&D team of talented and industry leading hardware and system engineers. The novel products developed by the R&D team will be the first in the industry with the goal to redefine the battery and energy landscape. 


The company technical experts have been in the industry more than 20 years each and have many key patents. The principal firmware engineer role is integral to the success of the company and is expected to carry this philosophy of innovation and creative problem solving. There will be ample opportunities to be part of the innovation process and to grow with company.        


Qualifications / Skills:

  • 10+ years of firmware development experience
  • Embedded C / C++
  • Bare metal experience with ARM processors
  • Previous experience architecting and building firmware from scratch
  • Experience using various digital bus protocols such as I2C, SPI, CAN, UART, USB …
  • Strong debug methodology and skills
  • Capable of wearing many hats from handling high-priority projects to managing routine administrative tasks


Desired:

  • Operating System GUI Development with UART interface
  • Experience using various analog peripherals such as ADCs and DACs
  • Experience using digital filters and processing data from analog sensors
  • Experience with lithium-ion batteries
  • Experience with bench evaluation equipment

Education:

BSEE, BSCS, or BSCE degree or higher.
