Our client, a global manufacturing company, seeks a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with extensive fabrication and design experience to join their team.
Responsibilities:
- Develop engineering deliverables in compliance with Company Management Systems, current legislation, project requirements, and international standards. Review deliverables produced by team members.
- Identify and document project scope expansions, adhering to project procedures for cost and time adjustments. Maintain commercial awareness of scope changes, budget impacts, and schedule variances.
- Manage project scope, budgets, and schedules as necessary.
- Identify project risks and implement risk mitigation strategies.
- Identify and implement opportunities for cost reduction and schedule improvement.
- Enhance project and team efficiency while ensuring technical quality and safety.
- Provide technical support to the project team and ensure adherence to Company Management Systems and QHSE requirements.
- Execute assigned engineering tasks within project budgets and timelines.
- Participate in technical design and project reviews to meet customer needs and QHSE standards.
- Collaborate effectively within a team and lead large teams of multi-skilled engineers.
- Identify and propose training opportunities for individual and departmental development.
- Understand customer requirements and ensure their satisfaction through clear communication.
- Develop strong customer relationships both internally and externally.
- Interface with internal engineering disciplines and external project stakeholders such as clients, fabricators, and site contractors.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the recruitment of new staff as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
- PE License required in Texas and Louisiana preferred.
- 8-15 years of experience in engineering design within oil & gas, petrochemical, or plastics manufacturing facilities, with a strong emphasis on fabrication and design.
- Familiarity with EPC project workflows, interdepartmental dependencies, and holistic project management principles.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small core team, with strong decision-making skills.
- Organized with the capability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Accountable, confident, innovative, highly motivated, and self-starting individual with high integrity.
- Knowledge of industry codes, product safety standards, and regulations.
- Comfortable with occasional international travel opportunities.
Preferred Skills:
- Over 10 years of experience in various mechanical engineering roles, including at least 5 years in multidisciplinary petrochemical design.
- Experience with ASME Section VIII, Division 2 High Pressure is preferred.
- Familiarity with ASME VIII Division 3 and other relevant codes/regulations is advantageous.
- Knowledge of FEA analysis and fitness for service assessments (e.g., API 579) is beneficial.
- Experience with other machinery/packages such as Thermal Oxidizers, Pneumatic Conveying Systems, Extruder/Pelletizers, and other packaged equipment is desirable.
- Familiarity with material selection and international steel codes relevant to the petrochemical sector.
- Understanding of thermal rating for heat exchangers is a plus.
