Job Title: Counselor in Higher Education

Location: Gainesville, TX

Pay: $48,752 annually



As a Counselor in Higher Ed, your primary role will be to collaborate with students in need, connecting them to campus and community resources to support their emotional health and overall well-being. This position is vital in maintaining the college’s vision by developing and providing programming that promotes mental health and wellness. You will cultivate relationships within the college and the community to ensure that students have access to the resources they need. Some travel between campuses is required.


Responsibilities:


  • Contact, assess, and provide brief counseling, mental health advocacy, and case management interventions. Ensure ongoing follow-up for students referred through CARES or Counseling contacts to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Maintain and analyze data related to counseling and CARES-related trends using Excel spreadsheets to identify resource needs for the student population.
  • Work closely with Financial Aid and the Foundation Office to review Emergency Assistance Requests. Contact students and refer them appropriately to the Foundation or community resources.
  • Establish and maintain ongoing relationships with local agencies for referrals to support student needs.
  • Participate in and contribute to planning with the Committees and various sub-committees, such as the CARES Team and the Awareness Group.
  • Assist in creating and planning regular in-person and virtual events related to mental health and wellness.
  • Work with various instructional departments, Housing, and Athletics to address the mental health and wellness needs of these specific populations.
  • Collect, create, and promote resources related to health, wellness, well-being, and safety for students, staff, and the public.
  • Participate in and deliver professional development, and attend staff training related to counseling and wellness.
  • Perform clerical and office duties including answering phone calls, directing callers to appropriate personnel, providing general college information, and assisting with academic or campus-related inquiries.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed to support the department and institution.


Requirements:


  • Master’s degree in Counseling or related area
  • Licensed Mental Health Professional: Licensed Professional Counselor – Associate credential or higher – Required
  • Knowledge of social service delivery systems, campus resources, and community services.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain accurate records.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other office software.
  • Willingness to travel between campuses as required.
