We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Counselor to join our team at the Georgia Mountains YMCA. As a Counselor, you will be responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities to foster individual growth and development of children in our care.
Key Responsibilities- Program Planning and Implementation: Develop and implement age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate program activities that meet the emotional, physical, and intellectual needs of children.
- Child Guidance and Support: Model positive guidance techniques, including redirection, positive reinforcement, and anticipation of potential problems, to encourage children's involvement in activities and promote their emotional well-being.
- Facility Maintenance: Participate in the maintenance of the facility to ensure it is clean and safe for children, including wiping down surfaces, picking up trash, and cleaning up spills.
- Communication and Relationship Building: Maintain a good relationship with parents through regular communication and active participation in planned activities.
- Team Collaboration: Participate in planning with other staff to include lessons and activities within the framework of the assigned curriculum.
- Education and Experience: High school diploma preferred; at least 16 years of age; previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
- Certifications and Training: CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
- Skills and Abilities: Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate program activities; previous experience with diverse populations and ability to develop positive relationships with people from different backgrounds.
