Job Title: Shipping and Receiving Specialist - this is a 6 month contract with a possibility of conversion. The position is onsite and 30 hours a week.


Overview:

The Shipping and Receiving Specialist will support the Facilities, Supply Chain, and Lab Operations teams, with the potential to provide backup for various operational functions as needed.


Key Responsibilities:

Facilities:

  • Perform minor maintenance tasks, including hanging whiteboards, constructing shelves, and relocating equipment.
  • Manage and schedule routine maintenance for machinery and BSC, including pipette calibration and HVAC maintenance.
  • Report facility issues and equipment deficiencies to management and assist in implementing corrective actions.

Supply Chain:

  • Organize and maintain inventory of lab supplies, chemicals, and office materials.
  • Ensure accurate records of inventory cycle counts.
  • Understand the company’s products and their handling requirements to manage sensitive materials effectively.
  • Prepare and ship processed orders, creating shipping labels and ensuring all necessary documentation is included.

Lab Operations:

  • Assist in monitoring and restocking lab supplies, chemicals, and glassware.
  • Clean labware and glassware as necessary.
  • Ensure cleanliness in lab areas, including Controlled Environment Rooms.
  • Support lab preparation tasks, such as making media, preparing gels, and labeling tubes.

Responsibility and Authority:

  • Equipment: Use company-provided IT equipment and laboratory instruments, including basic facility systems and tools.
  • Contacts: Communicate with external vendors as required.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of two years of experience in the Life Science industry, preferably in Shipping and Receiving or Operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills, efficiency, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Familiarity with laboratory practices and chemical handling is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and general computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of inventory and order management systems, as well as general shipping requirements.
  • Understanding of best practices in facilities management.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, and walking throughout the day.
  • Fine motor skills for handling materials and using instruments.

Working Environment:

  • Primarily located in a warehouse and lab setting, with some office responsibilities.
  • Work involves exposure to chemicals, biological materials, and compressed gases in a laboratory environment.
