Job Title: Senior Attorney – Trusts and Estates

Location: Boston, MA


Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Associate Attorney specializing in trusts and estates to join our esteemed law firm in Boston. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience advising high-net-worth individuals, families, and businesses on estate planning, trust administration, and tax strategies.


Key Responsibilities:

Estate Planning and Wealth Management:

  • Advise clients on estate planning strategies, including the preparation of wills, trusts, powers of attorney, health care proxies, and other documents to achieve their financial and personal goals.
  • Provide guidance on wealth transfer planning, tax mitigation strategies, and charitable giving vehicles, such as charitable remainder trusts and foundations.
  • Develop and implement complex estate plans for high-net-worth individuals, families, and business owners, addressing intergenerational wealth transfer, asset protection, and business succession planning.

Trust and Estate Administration:

  • Assist fiduciaries in the administration of trusts and estates, including the preparation of probate filings, accountings, and asset valuations.
  • Counsel trustees and executors on their fiduciary duties and provide solutions for navigating disputes or unique trust assets (e.g., closely held businesses, real estate, and art collections).
  • Draft and review trust documents, amendments, and other legal instruments to ensure compliance with applicable laws and client intentions.

Tax Planning and Compliance:

  • Provide sophisticated tax planning advice related to federal and state estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer taxes.
  • Collaborate with clients’ accountants and financial advisors to develop integrated tax strategies and ensure compliance with filing requirements.
  • Represent clients in audits or disputes with tax authorities, if necessary.

Client Relationship Management:

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through exceptional communication and a client-centered approach.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, delivering tailored solutions for their unique financial and personal circumstances.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to deepen client relationships through additional legal services.

Team Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Mentor and guide junior associates and paralegals in trust and estate matters, providing training and oversight.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys across the firm, including corporate, real estate, and litigation teams, to offer holistic legal solutions to clients.
  • Stay informed on changes in tax laws, estate planning techniques, and fiduciary regulations, and contribute to the firm’s thought leadership efforts (e.g., articles, seminars, and presentations).


Qualifications:

Education:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school; strong academic credentials preferred.
  • Admission to the Massachusetts Bar is required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in trusts and estates law, with a focus on estate planning, tax strategies, and trust administration.
  • Experience working with high-net-worth clients, family offices, or closely held businesses is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with probate and trust laws specific to Massachusetts.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Deep knowledge of federal and Massachusetts estate, gift, and income tax laws.
  • Strong drafting skills for sophisticated estate planning documents and trust agreements.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts in a clear and approachable manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a client-focused mindset.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and deadlines.
