A Commercial Superintendent plays a crucial role in overseeing the construction of commercial projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, and within budget. Our client's projects base includes historic renovation, municipal, education, commercial and health care.



Job Title: Commercial Superintendent

Job Summary: The Commercial Superintendent is responsible for managing all aspects of the construction process for commercial projects, from inception to completion. They oversee on-site operations, coordinate subcontractors, manage schedules, and ensure adherence to safety protocols and quality standards. The Commercial Superintendent reports to the Project Manager and works closely with various stakeholders to deliver successful projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Planning and Coordination:
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to develop project plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, and contracts to understand project scope and requirements.
  1. On-Site Management:
  • Supervise all on-site activities, including construction progress, subcontractor work, and material deliveries.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor work quality, safety compliance, and adherence to project plans.
  • Address any issues or delays promptly, implementing solutions to keep the project on track.
  1. Safety and Quality Assurance:
  • Enforce strict adherence to safety regulations and company policies to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Implement quality control measures to ensure workmanship and materials meet project standards and specifications.
  • Conduct safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions to promote a culture of safety among the project team.

  • Monitor project expenditures, track costs, and identify areas for cost savings or efficiencies.
  • Review subcontractor invoices, change orders, and procurement documents for accuracy and approval.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager to forecast project costs and manage the project budget effectively.
  1. Client Communication and Relationship Management:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, addressing inquiries, concerns, and requests in a timely manner.
  • Provide regular project updates to clients, stakeholders, and senior management, highlighting progress, milestones, and challenges.
  • Foster positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, and team members to promote collaboration and project success.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field (preferred).
  • Proven experience as a Commercial Superintendent or similar role in commercial construction projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction processes, techniques, and building codes.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a diverse team.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools (e.g., Procore, Primavera, Microsoft Project).
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • OSHA certification and other relevant safety training (preferred).
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
