Job Description
The Corporate Counsel will be responsible for numerous duties that affect all aspects of this insurance carrier's business and will report directly to the company’s VP, Senior Counsel. A summary of the essential functions for this position are below.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on all aspects of insurance laws and regulations
- Participate and advise on corporate legal matters
- Draft, review and negotiate a variety of contracts and represent the company in insurance-related negotiations and transactions
- Advise on commercial and personal insurance matters, such as policy and contract construction, program structure, reinsurance, and coverage issues
- Respond to regulatory requests, exams, and complaints with internal stakeholders, executives and insurance regulators
- Analyze the risk presented and work to identify and implement solutions for regulatory issues
- Advise on litigation matters, including alternative dispute mechanisms
- Research and provide necessary regulatory updates as needed
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned
Minimum Skills and Competencies:
- JD from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law in Illinois
- 2+ years of legal experience as in-house counsel or within a law firm, with a focus on insurance transactional, regulatory and compliance matters
- Demonstrated communication skills, verbal and written, with a variety of audiences at all levels, both internal and external
- Ability to manage and collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Extremely organized with great attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
