Position Summary/Objectives

  • The Director, Engineering and PM is responsible for leading engineers and scientists who:
  • Execute the company Project Management Process
  • Execute Product Integration Process(whereby product is scaled up from R&D lab scale to full commercial scale, using a Process Integration Process
  • Directing other engineering activities in support of the company Cost Improvement Plan (CIP process) and other excellence oriented engineering activities.
  • Creating a business excellence culture and contributing to continual improvement activities in operations and engineering.
  • The goal of the position is for the company to attain excellence in project execution, appropriate to a company of our size and with a strong service orientation to our B2B customers, and, to simultaneously evolve the engineering fundamentals of the organization as drivers of competitiveness and as differentiators of the company in its commercial sphere with emphasis on Quality, Service and Cost.
  • The position will be exemplary of the company’s desire to be an inclusive and employee-focused organization while at the same time doing everything possible to meet or exceed customer expectations. The main scope of the function will be in execution in the US plants and operation, however, the Project Management Process leadership job element is global and effects both US and Netherlands operations.

Essential lob Functions:

  • Refine and flex the Project Management Process, adapt to the needs of all projects in the scope of the function.
  • Lead the Project Management and Engineering teams in the execution of projects, in line with the expectations of the process, including, fine-tuning the approach in response to situations that pertain.
  • Guide engineering team in the appropriate use of statistics and data-based decision making.
  • Coordinate cross-functional work in the creation of project charters and work breakdown lists and the related resource planning and timelining activities.
  • Smartly deploy PM and Engineering resources appropriately, and, in response to the needs of the specific projects and situations related to projects.
  • Lead high profile projects, or, projects where the position holder has special or unique skills.
  • Issue periodic (weekly, monthly, other) progress or situation / status updates to leadership, to the organization at large, or, to client organizations.
  • Chair and coordinate update meetings and other informational sessions for company leadership or client organizations.
  • Establish, maintain, and influence program-stakeholder relationships, expectations, and communications; both internal and external to the organization.
  • Present data and recommend program improvements to senior leaders.
  • Execute plans; capture and communicate program status and data in order to maintain current, accurate, program information for the use of stakeholders.
  • Originate and drive Project Management Office (PMO) continuous improvement activities. Working in partnership with functional leaders, optimize resource allocation to project portfolio across divisions/site.
  • Continually improve PM processes through lessons learned or other best practice driven actions.

Physical Demands

The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 50 pounds.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities;
  • This position manages program leadership to ensure projects achieve desired outcomes


Education, Experience, and Certification:

  • Advanced degree or Masters in Mechanical Engineering preferred, also, Biomedical Engineering or other engineering discipline.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in addition to having the ability to effectively communicate within the project teams as well as to top level management
  • 5+ years of experience in the medical device industry.
  • 5+ years of experience in a project management role or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with project management tools such as MS Project or other.
  • Ability and experience with communicating effectively with executive leaders.
  • Excellent organization and time management/multi-tasking skills(comfortable in an ambiguous and fast-paced environment, operating at both strategic and tactical levels)
