Word Processing Coordinator

LHH is partnering with an organization in the Washington DC area seeking a proficient Legal Word Processor to join our team and provide essential support in preparing and formatting legal documents. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of legal terminology, excellent typing skills, and proficiency in word processing software such as Microsoft Word. Attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines are essential qualities for this role. Style, formatting and numbering is a requirement of this position. Prior legal experience is requried.

This is a temporary to hire position. The hours are Monday – Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. The position will offer remote flexibility while on the temporary contract but once converted to a permanent employee with require 3 in office days. The pay rate is between $22-$27 based on experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, format, and edit legal documents, including contracts, agreements, briefs, pleadings, motions, and correspondence, according to established templates and guidelines.
  • Proofread documents to ensure accuracy in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and formatting.
  • Convert documents between different file formats as needed.
  • Maintain and update document templates, ensuring consistency and compliance with firm standards.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and other legal professionals to meet document production deadlines and priorities.
  • Handle document revisions, version control, and document management tasks efficiently.
  • Assist with administrative tasks as needed, including data entry, scanning, and filing documents.
  • Stay updated on legal industry trends and advancements in word processing technology to enhance productivity and efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in legal studies or word processing is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a legal word processor or in a similar role within a law firm or legal department.
  • Proficiency in word processing software, particularly Microsoft Word, and familiarity with document management systems.
  • Strong knowledge of legal terminology, formatting requirements, and citation styles (e.g., Bluebook, APA).
  • Exceptional typing speed and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Flexibility to work occasional overtime and adapt to changing priorities.
