The Legal Assistant will be responsible for supporting various attorneys in the Public and Education Law section with all administrative aspects of the section specialty. This opportunity is full time and fully on-site in Little Falls, NJ.
Essential Duties:
- Provide administrative support which includes printing, scanning, copying
- E-file via NJ e-Courts as well as NYSCEF, and PACER
- Attend to incoming phone calls on the behalf of assigned attorneys
- Arrange couriers, court reporters, expert witnesses, and other special functions
- Attend and take notes during meetings
- Assist with proper case screening and origination process to include initial conflict check in collaboration with the Records Department; create and maintain a reliable and accurate filing system for electronic documents
- Draft and proofread correspondence, discovery, minutes, pleadings, contracts and various other documents
- Close concluded matters as instructed by supervising attorney(s)
- Maintain attorney calendars by planning and scheduling meetings, appointments, and conferences both onsite and remote
- Prepare expense reports
- Prepare check requests and submit purchase orders as needed
- Redact, bates stamp, and organize documents for production
- Update contact information for attorneys
- Enter attorney time into time keeping software as requested
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year experience in a law firm setting; NJ or NY Notary preferred
- Effective time management skills and excellent organizational skills
- Proficient understanding of legal terminology and principles, research methods, court processes
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail - particularly in proofreading
- Strong technology skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; NetDocs is a plus
Salary range: $60K-$70K
