The Position

Join us as our Director of Mechanical Engineering - Customer Product Development, a role where you'll be at the heart of innovation in the exciting world of metal 3D printed product development. This role interacts directly with design engineering to bring metal 3D printed products and 3D printing-enabled assemblies to life. In this pivotal position, you won't just lead a technical team, you'll be shaping the future of how we develop customer products. Your expertise will drive the evolution of our printing process, constantly evolving our internal metal 3D printing capabilities. This role offers the unique opportunity to leave a significant mark on the industry, leading a team of passionate professionals in breaking new ground and turning ambitious ideas into reality. Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Define and implement engineering strategies aligned with company objectives.
  • Project Management: Manage multiple customer development projects (3D printed parts and assemblies), ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, to specifications and within budget.
  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and grow a team of development engineers, sustaining engineers and project managers. This includes hiring, training, and performance management.
  • Innovation and Development: Actively participate in the development of new products and improvements to existing processes. This is a very hands-on role for the right person.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to align engineering projects with overall business goals, including developing processes around escalation paths as needed.
  • Budget Management: Prepare and oversee the department’s targets, plan, overall budget and project based budget.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all products meet the highest standards of quality and compliance.
  • Continuous Improvement: Play an integral part of the continuous improvement effort and ensure production readiness of all production part releases.


The Person

The ideal candidate has 7+ years of engineering leadership, preferably in the additive manufacturing sector. They have a proven track record of leading teams in building complex, multi faceted, highly technical products. They are detail-oriented, analytical, and passionate about finding innovative solutions.

In addition, the ideal candidate is achievement oriented and a team player. They have a collaborative and open-minded approach, with excellent communication skills. They are proactive and self-motivated, able to empower their reports to develop novel and innovative solutions; they are also willing to be hands-on when required.

  • 12+ years of experience within taking products from prototype to full scale
  • 7+ years of experience in a senior engineering leadership role, preferably in the metal additive manufacturing industry
  • Proven track record of managing complex engineering projects
  • Experience deploying technologies from concept to production
  • Experience of managing a team of at least 10 engineers
  • Passion for learning and for conquering challenging problems
  • Strong understanding of additive manufacturing processes and the additive manufacturing sector
  • Excellent managerial and supervisory skills
  • Ability to drive teams to develop reliable and repeatable hardware, software, and processes
  • Prior experience in software development is a plus
  • BS/MS in Engineering or a related field
  • Prior experience in a startup environment is a plus
