The Senior Business Analyst (Sr. BA) understands the business needs, facilitates the decision-making process, understands the technical capabilities and feasibility of company systems, and documents changes so the project team can deliver to the needs of the business. The Sr. BA is the key to the success of the project, inspiring confidence across the organization by bringing several aspects of the project together to ensure a common understanding across business and IT.


In addition to being versatile, this specific role is expected to have in-depth knowledge in the area of Claims (including but not limited to claims handling, FNOL, claims platform change management, and experience with 3 rd party integrations) to bridge the gap between business and development.



Essential Functions


  • Ability to work on large scale projects across multiple applications with complex and interconnected requirements.
  • Facilitate the decision-making process from an IT and business standpoint.
  • Be the bridge between teams to provide clarity and direction.
  • Manage the requirements gathering process and provide updates to the team.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including business leaders, IT team, and external partners and vendors, to gather and document business requirements.
  • Lead collaboration efforts across IT and business units on Change/Release Management for all application systems, production changes, implementations, and documentation.
  • Lead collaboration with the testing team on test strategy and test plans. Additionally, validate that the test cases align with the organization's expectations.
  • Communicate with business users and management enterprise-wide to ensure transparency of upcoming system changes.
  • Mentor other Business Analysts by sharing knowledge and skills.
  • May perform other related duties and special projects as assigned or requested.


Education, Training, and Experience:


  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Finance and/or equivalent combination of High School Diploma/GED, training, and work experience.
  • At least 5 years of Business Analysis experience in the Insurance Industry highly preferred.
  • Experience with Policy, Billing, or Claims systems requirements and system build-out.
  • Experience with Digital Assets, including Agent and Customer Portals.
  • Experience with Project Management methodologies such as Agile, Scrum (preferred) or Waterfall.
  • Experience in creating and maintaining traceability matrix for requirements.
  • Experience in building training documentation for new applications or program change requests used by end users.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Ability to participate in defining the user experience of each portal and view the process from the consumer's perspective.
  • Ability to write and define requirements at the capability level instead of looking to define all requirements upfront.
  • Ability to understand the technical aspects of a project and partner with the development team in defining the approach.
  • Ability to organize and make sense of seemingly disconnected information and bridge the gap.
  • Strong knowledge of insurance products and processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience with SQL, data, and visualization tools.
  • Experience working with c-suite and other senior leaders within the organization.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and guiding the process to clarity.
