Principal Scientist Proteomics

Life Science People is excited to partner with a cutting-edge biomarker discovery startup at the forefront of advanced metabolomics, lipidomics, and proteomics. This client utilizes state-of-the-art mass spectrometry technologies to deliver comprehensive multi-omics data, enabling the discovery and quantification of biomarkers critical for accelerating precision drug development.
Key Responsibilities
- Proteomics Methodology: Independently design, evaluate, and implement bottom-up and top-down approaches for both targeted and discovery-based protein measurement in biosamples. This includes deploying DDA and DIA LC-MS workflows.
- Wet Lab Environment: Perform hands-on laboratory work, including sample preparation, instrument maintenance, and method development, ensuring high-quality data generation.
- Protein Enrichment Techniques: Apply non-mass spectrometry-based methodologies, such as immunoprecipitation and PTM enrichment, for protein quantitation and analysis.
- Data Quality Assurance: Ensure the highest data quality standards through rigorous data monitoring, implementation of QC metrics, and adherence to standardized operating procedures. Train staff to maintain these standards.
- Instrument Maintenance and SOP Development: Maintain LC-MS instruments, develop new standard operating procedures (SOPs) for proteomics methods, and train team members on these protocols for commercial application.
- Laboratory Automation: Implement automation technologies for sample preparation and streamline data analysis pipelines to enhance efficiency.
- Collaborative Engagement: Work within a team-oriented environment, emphasizing data integrity, effective communication, and timely project completion.
Essential Skills/Experience
- Proteomics Workflow Expertise: Extensive experience in developing and implementing sample preparation workflows for label-free bottom-up proteomics, handling a variety of biomatrices including plasma, cells, CSF, and tissue.
- LC-MS Proficiency: Proven expertise in LC-MS method development, implementation, quality control, and troubleshooting, specifically with Bruker timsTOF instruments, utilizing both DIA and DDA data collection workflows.
- Targeted Protein Assays: Experience in developing and validating targeted protein assays, ideally within a regulated framework.
- Advanced Proteomics Techniques: Familiarity with PROTAC, ADC, reactive cysteine profiling, and PTM localization is preferred.
- Lab Automation and LIMS/ELN Systems: Strong capability in leveraging laboratory automation and utilizing LIMS/ELN systems within a regulated environment. Demonstrated scientific judgment and discretion are essential.
- Communication and Leadership: Exceptional oral and written communication skills with a proven ability to collaborate, mentor, and drive business impact through insightful data analysis.
Qualifications
- PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related scientific field.
- A minimum of 5 years of postdoc/indsutry experience in proteomics, focusing on mass-spectrometry-based methods.
