Data Scientist With Embedded Controls Experience

We are looking for a proactive Data Scientist with a solid foundation in controls engineering to join our team. This role will involve collaborating closely with Product Owners and Data Engineers to develop advanced algorithms and digital features. You will be working primarily with time series data from various controllers that transmit data via telematics, with a focus on descriptive and predictive modeling to optimize equipment uptime and minimize downtime. Our products serve the Mining and Power Generation sectors worldwide, requiring expertise in data science with a controls engineering background and the ability to work in a global, cross-functional environment.

What you will be doing:

  • Design, implement, and validate descriptive and predictive models, utilizing time series data to assess and predict equipment downtime and failure modes.
  • Work collaboratively with Product Owners and Data Engineers to define requirements, gather and curate data, and develop digital solutions to enhance equipment reliability and performance.
  • Develop and deploy algorithms and features that leverage Python, SQL, and PySpark (preferred) to enhance data analytics and processing capabilities.
  • Use Power BI to design and maintain dashboards and data visualizations that communicate insights to stakeholders and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Process and curate data from controllers across telematics systems, ensuring data quality and readiness for model training and development.
  • Analyze, interpret, and model time series data to drive actionable insights for product performance and predictive maintenance.
  • Communicate findings, challenges, and solutions effectively with global teams, stakeholders, and non-technical audiences.

The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in the following areas:

  • Proficiency in Python and SQL. Experience with PySpark (preferred) for big data processing,
  • Solid understanding of time series data analysis and predictive modeling,
  • Strong experience in Power BI for data visualization,
  • Experience with real-time telemetry data acquisition from a network of distributed Modbus controllers is a plus.
  • Industry experience with embedded controls for industrial or automotive applications
  • Experience working in Mining, Power Generation, or related heavy equipment industries.
  • Familiarity with data engineering and pipeline development.
  • Experience with global teams and the ability to navigate cross-cultural interactions.

What you'll need to be successful:

  • College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other relevant technical disciplines.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in data science, with a background in embedded controls engineering strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL. Experience with PySpark (preferred) for big data processing,
  • Solid understanding of time series data analysis and predictive modeling,
  • Strong experience in Power BI for data visualization,
  • Experience with real-time telemetry data acquisition from a network of distributed Modbus controllers is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate technical insights to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and capable of working independently in a global team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive attitude and attention to detail.
