Position Overview:

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Sr. Process Engineer to join our team in Troutville, VA. This position is responsible for optimizing the cement manufacturing process, improving production efficiency, and ensuring the highest standards of product quality. This role involves analyzing and improving raw material handling, clinker production, and cement grinding operations. The Senior Process Engineer works closely with operations, maintenance, and quality control teams to drive process improvements, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions that reduce energy consumption, improve output, and maintain environmental compliance.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the optimization of cement production processes, including raw milling, clinker production, pyro-processing, and cement grinding, to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure product quality.
  • Analyze plant performance data and conduct process evaluations to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with production team to troubleshoot process problems, providing technical expertise and recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Develop and implement process control strategies to optimize kiln performance, fuel efficiency, and reduce emissions.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies to reduce waste, downtime, and energy consumption.
  • Oversee the implementation of new technologies and process improvements to ensure optimal production outcomes.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for process deviations and equipment failures, and implement corrective measures.
  • Work with quality control teams to monitor and improve the chemical composition of raw materials, clinker, and cement to meet production specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards in all process-related activities.
  • Prepare and present detailed technical reports and recommendations to senior management on plant performance and improvement initiatives.
  • Train and mentor junior process engineers and plant operators to enhance technical knowledge and improve operational practices.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 7+ years of experience in process engineering within the cement or related heavy industrial sector.
  • Extensive knowledge of the cement production process, including raw material preparation, clinker production, pyro-processing, and cement grinding.
  • Experience with process simulation tools and process control systems (e.g., DCS, PLC).
  • Strong understanding of kiln operation, fuel types, and combustion systems in cement production.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading process improvement projects to reduce energy consumption and optimize production.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and standards for cement production, including emissions control.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data to drive decision-making.
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement methodologies (Green Belt/Black Belt certification preferred).
