We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Property Accounting Manager to join the finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all accounting activities related to the property portfolio, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. The Property Accounting Manager will work closely with the property management and development teams to provide financial insights and support strategic decision-making.


Must have experience with Multi-Family/Residential Property Accounting.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the property portfolio, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and company policies.
  • Develop and manage budgets for each property, including operating expenses, capital expenditures, and revenue projections. Monitor actual performance against budgets and provide variance analysis.
  • Ensure proper accounting for leases, including rent payments, lease incentives, and lease modifications in accordance with ASC 842.
  • Collaborate with property managers to review financial performance, address financial issues, and provide guidance on cost control and revenue enhancement strategies.
  • Oversee the processing of accounts payable and receivable related to property operations, ensuring timely and accurate payment of invoices and collection of rents.
  • Maintain the general ledger for all properties, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures. Assist in the preparation of audit schedules and respond to audit inquiries.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of property accountants, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations. Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Participate in the implementation and enhancement of accounting systems and processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in property accounting or real estate accounting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, or similar), Microsoft Excel, and other financial analysis tools. Knowledge of GAAP and lease accounting standards (ASC 842).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in financial reporting and analysis.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
