Job Summary:

Our client specializes in the minerals industries with a focus on the coal sector. With offices in West Virginia, and North Carolina, they are seeking a talented and self-driven Bookkeeper who is eager for advancement. This role offers an exciting opportunity to take on a leadership position within their design/build construction company.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the accounting operations of the company.
  • Communicate routinely with Project Managers on job-related topics, including insurance and contract agreements.
  • Prepare all monthly financial reports.
  • Provide reporting and budgeting as required by Senior Management.
  • Manage company and project cash flow.
  • Perform accounts payable and receivable functions.
  • Conduct payroll functions.
  • Provide HR support regarding fringe benefits.
  • Monitor company bank accounts and perform bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare sales/use tax returns and business property returns.
  • Assist with the preparation and coordination of audit and tax return processes.
  • Implement and maintain internal financial controls and procedures.
  • Perform domestic and international wire transfers.
  • Ensure accounting practices comply with legal standards.
  • Set up jobs, budget control, subcontracts, and change orders in the accounting software.
  • Understand and maintain standard cost codes in the accounting system.
  • Prepare journal entries.
  • Perform duties as the 401K administrator and hourly pension administration.
  • Apply for and maintain business licenses and annual report filings across multiple states.


Job Skills and Qualifications:

  • Organized leader with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or 3-5+ years of progressive experience in construction accounting.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Understanding of commercial insurance policies preferred.
  • Proficiency with Office software (Excel, Word, Adobe, etc.).
