Job Description Purpose of Position: Accountable to the Director of Social Work/designee, Social Worker V is responsible for the clinical and administrative supervision of Social Work Staff and graduate-level social work students in the area (s) assigned. The employee functions as a member of the Emergency Department leadership team. Duties and Responsibilities: Provides clinical supervision and oversees the work done by all social workers in the Emergency Room, as well as, social work students, if assigned to him/her. Meets with supervisors individually and/ or as a group for formal supervision. Review documentation of Social Work staff for content, appropriateness of care, timeliness, and compliance with Medical Records and Departmental documentation requirements Assesses the educational needs of staff and makes recommendations for in-service training. Prepares yearly Health and Hospitals Corporation staff evaluations and/or social work student evaluations, if applicable. Conducts employee counseling and/or disciplinary actions as necessary. Oversees staff use of time; approves/denies requests for leave in collaboration with The Human Resources Department. Prepares social work staff’s schedule to ensure appropriate social work coverage in all three tours. Collaborates with emergency room Chief of Service, Associate Director of Nursing, and Administrator to ensure identification of high and moderate social risk patients and ensure appropriate care. Trains and orients new staff. Participates in the department’s cross-training program. May serve on inter-agency committees and task forces as a representative of the Department of Social Work. Carries a caseload of patients by covering a unit and/or in the absence of his/her supervisees. Participates in the Hospital/Departmental Emergency Response to internal or external disasters Coordinates case findings and collaborates with the interdisciplinary teams in the emergency rooms Acts as a Liaison for the department and Hospital to the New York City Police Department, court system, and other agencies involved like ACS, APS and the like. Minimum Qualifications 1. Valid license as an LCSW issued by the NYSED, and two (2) years of supervisory experience, as described above.
