The Nautical Group is a retained executive search firm partnering with clients to identify and recruit outstanding individuals capable of serving key disciplines at the executive level. Our firm has been retained by Cooper Tacia to conduct the search for a Division Manager. Cooper Tacia is the product of a partnership formed between two high school students, John Cooper and Chris Tacia, in 1996. The two began a business splitting firewood and selling it by the truckload to locals around Sanford, North Carolina. Proceeds from selling firewood became the seed money for a small development in western Harnett County.


Since its incorporation in 2003, Cooper Tacia has evolved from residential construction and renovation in Sanford, NC to large-scale manufacturing, office buildings, government and education facilities, restaurant & retail spaces, apartment complexes, and airport construction throughout the southeast United States. What has remained constant is their goal of becoming one of the most sought after, creative and dynamic project management and general contracting companies in the southeast. Cooper Tacia is committed to working toward its mission while keeping its operating principles first and foremost in their minds.


Reporting to the COO, the Division Manager and will be responsible for all day-to-day operations, including managing the P&L, setting goals and ensuring the division meets financial benchmarks, creating and managing division plans and budgets and developing and managing staff. This role will also serve as the face of Cooper Tacia in their market.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide direct oversight to business development, preconstruction, project management and office staff; ensure teams are empowered and accountable
  • Meet regularly with the estimating team to discuss new opportunities and set priorities; review estimates and ensure they are thorough
  • Oversee project execution and ensure projects are consistently completed on time and within budget; develop seamless project teams that work well together
  • Audit monthly project management reports and proactively address problem areas as needed
  • Work to win new business with the support of project executives, preconstruction and the business development team
  • Regularly follow up with clients to ensure they are happy and things are going smoothly
  • Become a trusted partner and develop and maintain relationships with owners
  • Develop and track operating budgets; monitor all expenses and ensure the Division is within budget
  • Work with HR to ensure staffing goals are met and Cooper Tacia attracts the right talent
  • Create opportunities to develop teams and ensure a positive working culture


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS and EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management
  • Extensive experience running all aspects of construction
  • Experience with MS Office Suite, Procore, Salesforce, Bluebeam/Acrobat and Accumatica
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, particularly relating to teamwork and team development with all stakeholders in the project delivery process
  • Strong strategic and analytical ability within the context of business decisions
  • Knowledge of project delivery methodologies and associated risk mitigation strategies
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills to support decisions and recommendations
