The Supplier Quality Engineer works with the team to ensure the quality systems are realized and are in place for both Heliene and its suppliers. Duties include, but are not limited to, the daily collection and evaluation of quality data, development, and monitoring of Key performance indicators (KPIs), development and implementation of incoming manufacturing inspection, new inspection and test methods, training for team members on measurement methods, supporting Product Engineering projects, managing evaluation and audits of key suppliers, and assisting with on-boarding of Heliene personnel. This role must grow with the growth of the organization.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with Supply Chain on supplier quality measurement and improvement (including raw material and OEM manufacturing)
  • Developing incoming documents and completing dimensional inspections of incoming and in-process products using various variable and attribute gauging methods based on QCP and Product Engineer drawings and specifications. Help support the process of going electronic
  • Achieves Key Performance Indicator (KPI) objectives by helping develop the appropriate production/quality data collection process, collect the data (including nonconformance) and conducting the appropriate analysis to allow for the appropriate continuous improvement strategic plans to be enacted. This includes owning a project or being a part of a team that implements the Corrective or Preventative action to ensure the KPIs are met
  • Develop quality control plans (QCP) with suppliers by identifying critical control points and implementing preventive measures or test methods, understanding machine or material process limits, monitoring production inspection results, and verifying or updating quality procedures
  • Evaluate and understand supplier markets and introduce new options to improve performance or reduce cost
  • Support Engineering teams in design review and tolerance definition in line with supplier process capabilities
  • Support department supplier and Heliene performance by reducing process waste and improving organization and cleanliness using improvement tools with suppliers and inside Heliene
  • Act as a change agent for training, 5S, lean and other improvement tools


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Quality with 3-5 years of experience with supplier quality in a manufacturing environment or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Experience with solar manufacturing considered an asset
  • Certification as a lead auditor considered an asset
  • ASQ certification as a quality engineer considered an asset
  • Experience in the manufacturing of PV modules or other solar/renewable energy equipment considered an asset
  • Understanding of GD&T, drawing and design /process controls
  • Must understand and be able to develop inspection and test methods
  • Experience with Root Cause investigation and Corrective Action implementation
  • Project management skills
  • Data collection and analysis – Must develop KPIs
  • Supplier evaluations and audits
  • PFMEA/DFMEA, PPAP and/or APQP experience
  • Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving abilities
  • Working knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma tools – DMAIC problem-solving
  • The ability to lead and motivate a team, and the ability to positively influence others
  • The ability to facilitate change
  • Must have valid drivers’ licence and reliable transportation
  • Must have a valid passport and ability to travel internationally
  • Travel requirement is expected to be less than 20%
  • Must complete record check and drug screening prior to employment
