PS Seasoning is currently looking for a Director of Food Safety and Quality to join the Executive

Leadership team at the corporate offices and manufacturing facility in Iron Ridge, Wisconsin. This is an

opportunity for an individual to join a company with a long-standing tradition of excellence, and

unbelievable growth, in food products manufacturing and distribution.

Job Summary: The Director of food safety and quality requires an initiative-taking, well-organized

person with excellent decision making and time management skills. This position is responsible for the

strategic and day-to-day performance of the quality, food safety, and sanitation departments it

oversees.

Essential Functions/Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Food Safety, HACCP, GMP, and SQF audit standards are met
  • Quality / Food Safety Procedures
    1. Evaluate / refine existing company quality processes, measures, and procedures
    2. Collaborate with internal teams to drive clear understanding of quality standards and establish robust capability to drive compliance with the goal of consistent quality attainment
    3. Develop / implement continuous improvement program to ensure consistent elevation of quality standards
    4. Function as the primary contact for third party suppliers related to food safety programs including pest control, sanitation, and SQF audit compliance, ensuring pro-active communications with operations, vendors and customers and efficient and effective execution of these programs across the organization
  • Testing Program
    1. Evaluate / refine existing company testing procedures and work with internal stakeholders to develop robust, balanced program to ensure compliance with key standards
    2. Track testing data and maintain database of key results including Exceptions / Deviations log
  • Retain Management
    1. Collect and maintain database to track retains from manufacturing partners
    2. Refine procedures to systematically evaluate retains, ensure compliance with company gold standards, and, where applicable, work with partners to develop / execute corrective action plans
  • Consumer Quality Support
    1. Track / maintain database of consumer complaints or other quality issues
    2. Identify trends in consumer issues and, where applicable, develop corrective action plans for internal R&D and production team to develop reformulation strategies
    3. Support customer service team in answering customer questions related to quality and where applicable, resolving any issues
  • Crisis Response
    1. Refine company crisis response procedures (both food safety and quality) and drive clear cross-functional understanding of roles and responsibilities in the event of any quality issues
  • Vendor Management; Audit / Compliance
    • Refine company audit process / manuals and develop clear, effective communication strategy with key suppliers
    • Collaborate with R&D and purchasing teams to evaluate new suppliers and, where applicable, develop remediation / process improvement programs to ensure compliance with company standards
    • Maintain audit / regulatory / and SOP tracking systems for suppliers to ensure all documentation is current and compliant with company and / or regulatory standards
    • Refine company recall procedures including regular mock recall testing with cross functional team
    • Participate in quarterly customer and vendor business reviews to highlight quality trends and key areas for improvement
    • Will provide leadership, support, and participate in Food Safety and GMP audits (BRC, regulatory FDA, customer, etc.
  • Regulatory / Documentation
    • Monitor regulatory activities and plant compliance with regulatory standards and function as a liaison ensuring regulatory compliance
    • Work with R&D to catalog robust item specifications and ensure that manufacturing partners are delivering consistent compliance with established standards
    • Work with PD to catalog key ingredient information and develop testing and other compliance procedures to ensure items meet company standards (including organic, non-GMO, and other ingredient claims)
    • Ensure compliance with necessary regulatory and auditing bodies; propose additional certification programs as appropriate
  • Cross-Functional Partnership
    1. Lead cross-functional team to ensure quality standards
    2. Drive clear cross-functional understanding of key quality issues / drivers and help team make intentional, active trade-offs to balance quality, brand, and commercial objectives
    3. Identify any sources of food safety risk and drive clear organizational understanding and alignment on how to achieve “zero-tolerance” standard
    4. Collaborate with R&D and Operations to evaluate process development opportunities to drive consistency in lot-level quality attainment
  • Leadership
    1. Propose and manage annual department budgets and spending
    2. Prioritize team project work based on schedule, risk, resources, and return on investment
    3. Coach, mentor, and train staff
    4. Contribute to a positive and motivating work environment

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in laboratory/science field, master’s degree preferred
  • 7 years’ manufacturing experience in the food industry required, experience in the seasoning or spice industry preferred
  • Current work experience in food manufacturing with HACCP, GMPs and SQF is required
  • Strong computer skills, Word, Excel, Outlook, and ERP Systems (knowledge of Deacom and Tracegains is a plus)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact when working with cross-functional teams
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize projects and adapt to changing deadlines
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
