Company Description

We are silana – automated fashion production. We founded this robotics startup to fully automate the production process in the fashion industry. Currently, fashion is mainly produced in Southeast Asia & (newly) in African Countries, which leads to tremendous lead times, an incredible CO2-emission through broad transportation, and slave-like working conditions. This industry faces issues in the whole triple-bottom-line.


Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role as an Automation Engineer PLC at silana located in Newark, NJ. As an Automation Engineer PLC, you will be responsible for developing and implementing automation solutions using Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) to optimize and improve the fashion production process. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities, develop technical specifications, design and test automation systems, and provide ongoing support and maintenance.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in relevant manufacturing systems engineering with a focus on PLC and MPU control systems.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Detailed knowledge of automation software and coding languages (PLC, HMI, SCADA).
  • High proficiency in FBD and SCL programming as well as troubleshooting systems with multiple expansion modules (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, etc.).
  • Experience with common fieldbus networks and protocols (PROFINET, OPC UA/DA, TCP-IP).
  • Practical experience with industrial sensors and customized machines.
  • Experience with the commissioning of field devices in PLC systems.
  • Excellent knowledge in automation technology, instrumentation, or industrial control technology.
  • Knowledge of MPU programming and integration.
  • Professional experience with machine safety regulations, FMEA, and risk assessment.
  • Familiarity with industrial standards and norms (ISO, IEC, etc.).
  • Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Professional experience with motion control in an industrial environment (configuration of hardware and software, drive tuning, PID regulation).
  • Familiarity with digital and analog signal processing algorithms.
  • Advanced Degree: Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Certifications: Professional certifications in PLC programming or control systems.
  • Industry Experience: Experience in the textile or related manufacturing industry.
  • Software: Proficiency in CAD software and other relevant design tools.
