Job Title: Application Security Engineer

Location: Hybrid to ATL(30318) - 2-3 days/week on-site

Type: 6+ month contract to hire

Compensation Range: $60-$80/hr


Role Overview:

As a Senior Application Security Engineer, you will be an integral part of the client's Global Information and Content Security (GICS) team. This role is crucial for protecting the company's most critical consumer-facing Direct-To-Consumer applications. You will collaborate across various facets of the Application Security team (Engineering, Operations, and Vulnerability Management) to ensure the applications are safeguarded against the latest vulnerabilities.


Day-to-Day Responsibilities:


Operational (20%):

  • Serve as a security-focused leader passionate about learning, mentoring, teaching, and problem-solving.
  • Collaborate proactively with product teams on Application Security initiatives.
  • Innovate and solve problems with automated solutions.
  • Stay updated on current and emerging secure application technologies, products, and trends.
  • Share role-specific knowledge continuously with team members and product teams.
  • Participate in Agile SCRUM ceremonies, requirements gathering, priority and risk identification, proposing solutions, estimating timeframes, and driving tasks to completion.


Technical (80%):

  • Conduct penetration testing using various techniques (Dynamic, Static, Runtime, etc.) to identify vulnerabilities in large environments.
  • Utilize industry-standard testing tools, such as Burp Suite Pro.
  • Research and identify open-source community-driven tools for security testing.
  • Exploit discovered vulnerabilities found through security testing tools.


Must-Haves:

  • Proven track record in identifying vulnerabilities in applications across various platforms (web, mobile, desktop) and infrastructure.
  • Extensive experience testing web apps, web APIs, mobile apps, cloud environments, identifying, and remediating OWASP Top 10 security flaws, and understanding large and complex systems.
  • Strong desire to help engineering teams build secure consumer applications.
  • Ability to explain risks and vulnerabilities to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Hands-on experience working with DevOps and Agile-driven product teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team or individually and receptive to feedback.
  • Experience with Burp Suite (2-3 years hands-on), specifically manual testing.
  • Experience with Kali Linux Suite.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Experience working with applications with a large consumer base.
  • Desire to mentor the team and handle high-visibility engagements


Soft Skills:

  • Flexibility with changing processes.
  • Ability to interface with different groups and communicate specific needs effectively.
  • Open to change and process shifts.
  • Strong social dynamics and leadership functions.


Nice to Haves:

  • Experience with streaming security platforms.
  • Experience with identifying vulnerabilities specific to streaming video services and DRM.
  • Experience with customizing static, dynamic, and runtime analysis tools.
  • Coding skills in popular languages and platforms such as Python, Java, etc.
  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or Information Security.
  • CISSP, OSCP, GCIA, or SANS certifications.
  • Regulated industry background (regulated/security side).
