Description of Position: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Data Scientist in the Data Analytics Branch assigned to United States Space Command’s Command, Control, Communications, and Computer Systems (C4) & Cyber Directorate (J6).


Position Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Deliver data analytics using a broad set of techniques and technologies to solve the command’s operational and business problems.
  • Work with customers to develop and meet requirements for data analytics using Agile processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define policies, understand requirements, and develop scalable and manageable solutions.


Key Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of data governance, data architecture, and data engineering policies, technologies, techniques, and methods.
  • Knowledge of data science techniques and technologies for statistical analysis, visualization, and machine learning.
  • Advanced skill in articulating and negotiating very complex and sensitive issues with officials of diverse perspectives and often with different or opposing views. Expert ability to negotiate and defend findings and gain executive support for new program concepts.


Qualification Requirements:

  • Degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
  • A combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience at the next lower broadband/grade level (or equivalent) in performing data science duties.


Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance
  • Position requires drug testing
  • Occasional travel away from the regular duty location may be required.
  • May be required to work irregular duty hours including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
