Analytical Chemist

Overview: We are seeking an Analytical Chemist to join our Material Engineering Research team. In this role, you will support Department of Energy-funded programs focused on advanced battery materials.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct Technical Analysis: Perform complex, multi-instrument analyses on electrochemical energy storage materials (cathode, anode). Ensure timely reporting of results to support process improvements.
• Maintain and Calibrate Instruments: Oversee maintenance and calibration of analytical instruments (ICP-MS, ICP-OES, XRD, TGA/DSC, SEM, ion beam milling, benchtop SEM) in coordination with manufacturer support.
• Train Users: Provide training on instrument operation and ensure adherence to protocols for accurate data collection.
• Develop Documentation: Create and update SOPs and documents for instrument use, aligning with safety and procedural guidelines.
• Collaborate and Communicate: Work closely with scientific staff, communicating effectively to support experimental goals and document findings.

Technical Requirements:

• Proficiency in analytical techniques relevant to materials science and chemical synthesis.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel for communication and data management.

Work Environment:

• Standard 40-hour work week with occasional overtime or weekend work to meet project deadlines.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• Previous experience in a research laboratory environment preferred, especially in battery materials or electrochemical energy storage.
