The Wakefern Customer Marketing team is a dynamic and creative group of digital experts who are responsible for planning, creating, and managing engaging digital experiences for our customers.


The SEO Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive SEO strategy to drive organic traffic and improve search engine rankings across six banners. This role will require a deep understanding of SEO best practices, technical SEO, and the ability to analyze data and trends.


Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Minimum of 1-3 years of proven experience with SEO as a primary job function for an eCommerce website.
  • Strong understanding of SEO best practices. including on-page optimization, link building, technical SEO, and site speed optimization.
  • Proficiency in SEO tools; specifically, Google Search Console, SEM Rush, Screaming Frog.
  • Knowledge of Google's algorithm updates and penalties; the ability to proactively mitigate any potential issues.
  • Performance-first mindset, strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and generate actionable takeaways.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and quality of work.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor the message based on the audience; ability to clearly communicate project status or roadblocks to supervisor.
  • Strong organizational & project management skills.
  • Takes a proactive approach, a self-starter problem-solving individual who can work independently as well as collaborate with a team.


Nice to Have

  • A deep understanding of eCommerce metrics and the consumer conversion funnel.
  • Experience with web analytics, GA4, Page Speed Insights.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other web technologies, as well as the ability to troubleshoot technical issues that can impact SEO performance.


Core Functions

Managing their own workload based on priorities set by the Manager of Digital Content, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Monitor and analyze website traffic and search engine rankings to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Conduct keyword research and analysis to identify opportunities for improving organic search visibility and traffic through on-site optimizations.
  • Manage on-site optimization efforts, including content recommendations and technical support tickets.
  • Optimize page elements, including meta tags, header tags, and links to improve search engine rankings.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Content team to create high-quality, SEO-friendly content.
  • Stay up to date with the latest SEO trends, algorithm updates, and best practices.
  • Communicate SEO performance and progress to relevant stakeholders and make recommendations for new initiatives and strategies to drive digital growth.
  • Develop success metrics and identify industry benchmarks.
  • Partner with other teams and/or divisions to collaborate on SEO strategies.
