We have a great new Scoping Engineer opportunity with one of our wireless telecom clients This position will work a 3 days in the office and 2 days from home hybrid schedule.


Position: Scoping Engineer

Location: Morristown, NJ (this person will need to report into the Morristown, New Jersey office each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Duration: 18 months

Pay Rate: $60-$65/hr

JOB SUMMARY

The Scoping Engineer is responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of telecommunications equipment and services for deployment at assigned sites. This role involves reviewing site feasibility, construction plans, installation documentation, and customer requirements to ensure alignment with deployment needs. The Scoping Engineer identifies necessary work packages, makes decisions on site modifications, and prepares the Scope of Work (SOW), Bill of Materials (BOM), and relevant customer and supplier drivers. These documents will be provided to Ericsson stakeholders to support site construction planning and materials procurement. This process includes site walks, desktop reviews, and aerial imagery analysis. The Scoping Engineer is also responsible for using appropriate Ericsson tools to document and communicate the SOW for stakeholder approval.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


Develop and Document SOW & BOM:

  • Create comprehensive site-specific Scope of Work (SOW) and Bill of Materials (BOM) identifying all work types and associated drivers.
  • Provide technical guidance to construction teams on material and service requirements.

Site Evaluation:

  • Review the technical solution, construction standards, and contracted SOW, including work packages and customer deliverables.
  • Understand SOW, drivers, and fixed-price packages between Ericsson, service providers, and customers.

Site Design & Feasibility:

  • Review Cell Site Construction Drawings (CD), Radio Frequency Design Sheets (RFDS), and structural designs for constructability.
  • Use drone survey data to identify discrepancies and propose changes to meet RF design requirements.
  • Create the SOW and BOM based on construction drawings, RFDS, and survey data, ensuring constructability and alignment with the project timeline.

Scheduling & Planning:

  • Develop and review detailed construction schedules with stakeholders to ensure project alignment and timely delivery.
  • Adjust schedules as needed and collaborate with Project Managers and Service Providers on scope changes.

Cost & Supplier Management:

  • Review supplier quotes for accuracy and approve or reject based on material, service, and equipment needs.
  • Ensure the accurate identification of rigging and crane requirements for efficient project execution.

Project Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Participate in project meetings, providing technical insights and resolving issues as they arise.
  • Prepare status reports and offer recommendations for addressing any challenges encountered during the project.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Coordinate with various stakeholders (internal and external) to ensure smooth project execution and alignment with scope, services, and BOM preparation.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred) or 2-5 years of relevant industry experience
  • Background in cell site construction, technology upgrades, and site design solutions
  • Strong knowledge of construction documents, feasibility assessments, and consulting on site design
  • Experience with RFDS, construction drawings, and identifying material requirements
  • Familiarity with site construction processes, on-site safety, and structural design
  • Rigging and crane knowledge, including scope estimation and managing contractors
  • Knowledge of Ericsson quality standards and troubleshooting practices
  • Strong multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with professionals at all levels
  • Safety-conscious with OSHA certification (OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour course required)

  • Experience with Ericsson equipment
  • Experience managing large-scale telecom RAN projects
  • Tower and civil construction management experience
  • Advanced skills in Excel or other programming languages
