The Director IT - Power Trading is responsible for leading the design, development, implementation, and management of IT systems and solutions that support power trading operations. This position will work closely with trading teams, market analysts, and IT professionals to ensure the technology infrastructure is optimized for trading operations, real-time data processing, risk management, and regulatory compliance. The Director will also oversee IT security, scalability, and the integration of new technologies to enhance the trading platform's efficiency and reliability. 


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of trading platforms, real-time data acquisition systems, and risk management tools. 
  • Lead a team of IT professionals, providing guidance, coaching, and mentorship. 
  • Ensure proper IT support for the trading desk, including real-time troubleshooting and issue resolution. 
  • Work closely with traders, risk managers, and market analysts to understand their technological needs and implement tailored IT solutions. 
  • Ensure smooth communication and collaboration between the IT and trading teams for system enhancements and issue resolution. 
  • Negotiate contracts with third-party software and hardware vendors to procure necessary tools and systems. 
  • Manage relationships with technology vendors, ensuring they provide timely and high-quality service to support power trading operations. 
  • Stay abreast of new technologies, such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, and blockchain, and assess their potential application in power trading. 
  • Lead initiatives to continuously improve the IT systems and processes, driving innovation and efficiency within the power trading space. 
  • Hands on coding to maintain and enhance the existing IT framework


Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. A master’s degree in a related field is preferred. 
  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in IT, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within power trading, energy markets, or financial trading sectors. 
  • Proficiency in developing and managing trading platforms, ETRM (Energy Trading and Risk Management) systems, and real-time data systems. 
  • 7+ years experience with programming languages such as C#, Python and SQL 
  • Strong knowledge of energy markets, power trading systems, and regulatory frameworks. 
  • Strong leadership, team management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously. 
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced trading environment.
