Galveston, United States Reed Franchise Partnerships Full time

Are you ready to take the lead in keeping our ship running smoothly? As the First Assistant Engineer, you'll report directly to the Chief Engineer and be the go-to person for our engineering staff. You'll be in charge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of the ship's equipment and systems, making sure everything runs like a well-oiled machine. Our client offers competitive pay along with a strong benefits package

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the Team: You'll supervise our engineering staff, guiding them through daily operations, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Plan and Organize: Using our maintenance management application NSE (or any other provided), you'll develop and maintain a detailed plan for operation, maintenance, and repair. You'll also adjust based on emergent priorities.
  • Prepare and Repair: Knowledgeable about shipboard equipment and systems, including steam and diesel propulsion, electric power systems, automation, air conditioning, refrigeration, water makers, oily water separators, and more.
  • Inspections and Compliance: Ensure compliance with USCG regulations and conduct inspections to maintain safe vessel operations. Seek guidance when needed.
  • Collaborate: Regularly review and discuss the maintenance plan with the Chief Engineer to ensure everything is on track.
  • Mentor Students: Help supervise and mentor engine license option students on the Training Ship, ensuring this doesn't interfere with your main responsibilities.
  • Participate in Cruises and Shipyard Activities: Join training cruises and shipyard availability activities, preparing the vessel for all drydockings and inspections.

What You Need to Know:

  • Salary: Your compensation will match your experience.
  • Physical Requirements: You'll need to maintain a USCG/STCW Medical Certificate.
  • Availability: Be ready to be on board during training cruises, shipyard periods, or whenever the ship is away from port.
  • Essential Staff: This role is crucial under our client's Emergency Operations Procedures.
  • Testing: Pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing are required by USCG and DOT regulations.
  • Work Hours: While this position is exempt from overtime, you may need to work more than 40 hours a week, but not exceeding regulatory limits.
  • Participation: You're expected to be involved in events and teams that influence federal maritime training and education policy.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in Maritime Engineering or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience: At least three years as a 1st Assistant Engineer, including two years on a steam vessel of unlimited horsepower and one year on a diesel vessel of unlimited horsepower.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • USCG License as 1st Assistant Engineer of Steam Vessels of Unlimited Horsepower and Motor Vessels of Unlimited Horsepower.
  • STCW and USCG Medical Certificate.
  • Universal Refrigeration Technician Certification.

A USCG Endorsement as Electro Technical Officer is highly preferred.
