Security Benefit is searching for a Tax Intern to join our team. This position will work in our home office in Topeka, Kansas, and report to the supervisory accountant. SB associates are working in a hybrid environment with both remote and on-site work.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Intern will work under the supervision of the Director of Tax and will be responsible for pulling information and preparing state income taxes; estimating payments and preparing premium tax returns; calculating year-end premium taxes for multiple companies; and assisting with various projects for the tax and finance department.

Students eligible for the internship will be fulltime students available to work approximately 19 hours a week, beginning as soon as possible. Student will be expected to work during and in between semesters and up to 40 hours per week during the summer. This is not a summer only internship.

This internship will give a broad exposure to corporate income taxes and insurance taxes.


Qualifications

  • Full-time college student in Accounting major with at least a 3.0 GPA in major
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft applications
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, decision making, and organizational skills
  • Accuracy and the ability to be very detail oriented are crucial
  • Ability to think objectively and analytically
  • Ability to work with various levels of management
  • Demonstrates initiative and able to work independently
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
