As a senior member of a skilled database administrator team, you will serve an integral part in assisting with the migration, maintenance, update, and support of various database platforms including Snowflake, Fivetran HVR Replication Tool, DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, AWS RDS, Redis, DocumentDB, DynamoDB, and Data Migration Service (DMS). Activities will also include cross-functional collaboration with software development, security, and data warehouse teams. Production on-call support, maintenance, and off-hour deployments are required.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain a Snowflake data warehouse, and data replication from various sources.
  • This will include production deployments via a dev/ops procedure as well as monitoring
  • the health and well-being of the environment.
  1. Set up and maintain security and access for production.
  2. Development responsibilities include data modeling and analysis, schema design, and database object creations (tables, stored-procedures, triggers, functions, and jobs, etc.)
  3. Identify, assess, and evaluate technologies, products, and tools for building enterprise architecture services
  4. Analyze archiving approaches, propose solution(s) and assist in implementation of chosen approach
  5. Review and revise existing tables and indexing strategies to improve storage efficiency and access
  6. Responsible for performance tuning assistance on all data pull/queries and working with end-users
  7. Pro-actively identify issues and coordinate resolutions
  8. Assist programmers during development by responding to questions and providing guidance when necessary.
  9. Responsible for user direction/support on all data queries
  10. Analyze problems and propose, present and propagate solutions or practices to meet architectural challenges
  11. Participating in unit, system, user and performance testing
  12. User level familiarity with version control tools
  13. Installation, maintenance, and on-call support


Qualifications and Education:

  1. Working experience in setup, integration, and security [Active Directory/SSO etc.] with any
  2. SAAS applications
  3. Knowledge & ideally working experience, data lake, data modelling on Snowflake, AWS S3, Glue
  4. Working experience in setting up security and access controls in Snowflake
  5. 5+ years hands on database work DB2/UDB, SQL Server
  6. Hands on experience with AWS RDS, DocumentDB, DynamoDB, and Redis databases
  7. An understanding of proper indexing and experience with query tuning
  8. Knowledge of DB2
  9. Knowledge of UDB/AIX utilities such as backup, reorg, runstats and rebind is required
  10. Knowledge of Oracle and MS SQL Server reorg, update stats
  11. Experience with AWS DMS
  12. Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
  13. Experience using a Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodology
  14. Ability to analyze existing configuration and recommend hardware/software improvements
  15. Demonstrated ability to meet business needs with sound technical approaches
  16. Self-motivated, task oriented, and capable of working independently on multiple projects simultaneously
  17. Knowledge of the Property and Casualty Insurance industry is a plus
  18. Knowledge of replication desired.
  19. Prior experience migrating databases from on premise data center to the cloud is preferred.
