The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in supply chain management within the steel industry, with demonstrated expertise in procurement, negotiations, inventory management, vendor relations, and an understanding of steel market pricing dynamics.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement strategic initiatives to optimize the steel supply chain, focusing on cost reduction, lead-time minimization, and effective inventory management.
  • Build and sustain strong supplier relationships, negotiating competitive pricing and terms to ensure a reliable and cost-effective supply chain.
  • Oversee supplier performance, including the supplier scorecard process, addressing any performance issues.
  • Manage the procurement process for steel materials, including sourcing, supplier selection, and overall supply management, ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of high-quality products.
  • Plan material procurement to optimize stock levels, minimize holding costs, and prevent stockouts while ensuring product quality and availability.
  • Determine raw material pricing for sales quotes for new and existing customers. Initiate live market RFQs for raw material quotes and assess current pricing trends within the steel market.
  • Provide timely updates on steel market trends, helping team members understand market dynamics and assisting with customer messaging.
  • Offer quarterly material cost updates for customer-specific programs.
  • Collaborate with the quality control team to establish and maintain high standards for steel products and suppliers throughout the supply chain.
  • Assist in the new vendor qualification process.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including production, sales, quality, and finance, to ensure alignment and effective collaboration across departments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • This position is based at our Youngstown, Ohio headquarters.
  • Candidates must reside in the Cleveland, Akron, Pittsburgh, or Youngstown area.
  • Expertise in the metals market, particularly in the steel industry with a focus on sheet metal coils.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of steel procurement processes and key price drivers.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Proven experience in supply chain management.
  • Proficiency in MRP and ERP systems, inventory control, materials requirements planning, demand planning, purchase orders, and supply chain planning.
  • Analytical mindset with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Leadership skills and the capacity to drive change within a dynamic organization.
  • Strong collaborative skills for resolving issues.
  • Familiarity with the roll-forming process and other manufacturing processes is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel as required.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • A minimum of 5 years of procurement/materials management experience in a manufacturing environment, specifically within the steel-related industry.
