Sempio in the U.S:

In the U.S., Sempio has operated for almost 30 years primarily in Korean grocery markets, with headquarters in Cerritos, CA. We are searching for the right retail marketing director to help partner with the mainstream grocery channels sales division and support leading our brand expansion. The right candidate for this job will be able to impact the growth trajectory of our U.S.-based business at a key stage in our business growth.

Position Overview: As Food Service Sales Director – Korean Food Services/Restaurant for the U.S., you will be responsible for Leads and directs the effort to penetrate & develop key food service customer contacts and relationships, resulting in successful achievement of the Company's strategic sales goals & objectives. Driving restaurant food ingredients sales and managing direct customer relationships with chefs and owners across Food Services/Restaurants. Your primary goal will be to grow our product penetration by prospecting new business opportunities, sell our products as ingredients for the restaurants and food services clients, moreover, maintaining and expanding sales with existing clients, and aligning with internal teams including the R&D Division (Korea HQ) and Culinary Studio for menu development needs to ensure customer satisfaction and business success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify/prospect new Korean food services business opportunities through market research, networking, and lead generation: Restaurants, Franchises, Food Services
  • Prepare and deliver compelling presentations and proposals to restaurant chefs and owners, demonstrating the value of our products and services: Sauce, seasoning, various ingredients, new flavor launches, etc.
  • Develop and execute a strategic sales plan to achieve revenue targets and expand market share in the food services channel across the Restaurant ingredients categories.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, providing exceptional customer service, identifying, and addressing their needs effectively.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including inside sales, marketing, product development (Korea HQ R&D), and customer support, to ensure alignment to meet the customer needs.
  • Budget and Forecast reporting.
  • Analyze & report on market trends and competitor activities to identify opportunities and threats, and adjust sales strategies accordingly.
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements, ensuring favorable terms for both the company and the client.
  • Track and report on sales performance, providing monthly updates and insights to management.
  • Attend regional and national tradeshows/food forums

Qualifications

  • Bilingual: Korean, English
  • Bachelor’s degree in food science or business-related field (preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years of Chef Experience (Korean Food/Fushion Food preferred)
  • Minimum of 2 years of outside sales experience selling value-added ingredients such as extracts and flavors within the industrial channel of the food industry.
  • Must have experience selling food ingredients (Korean food would be a plus) to manufacturers into the following categories: Restaurant ingredients, Snacks, Baking, Beverage, Plan-based, Sauces & Spreads.
  • Food show presentation and food demo experience
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets and building strong customer relationships.
  • Strong customer-focused approach with excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Self-driven, proactive, and able to work independently as well as part of a team with a solution mindset.
  • Demonstrated ability to prospect effectively and develop new business opportunities.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal teams to achieve aligned goals and deliver exceptional results.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt to changing market conditions.
  • Willingness to travel within the region (50-70%)
  • Experience working with CRM systems, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
