Key competencies include:

  • Propose & use technology to improve, streamline and automate manufacturing by improving efficiency of the manufacturing process(es) to increase productivity while maintaining or improving quality.
  • Development and implementation of manufacturing cells for part handling, assembly, testing, and any other secondary finishing operations for injection molded products.
  • Programming of PLCs, 6 Axis Industrial Robots, Cartesian robots, and Collaborative robots to support the production, automation and finishing of injection molded parts.
  • Development and build or procurement of assembly equipment/tools and part performance testing equipment necessary to ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Design Mechanical and Electrical systems to automate production and testing of Injected molded parts and assemblies using 3D CAD.
  • Work with and provide guidance to Manufacturing and the Automation Lab to provide assembly of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic control systems for all necessary components used to create automation systems and interface with various models of robots and production machines.
  • Initiates and implements continuous improvement projects geared toward reducing reduction in labor and manufacturing costs, reducing dependence on labor (operators), and increasing production levels. Identifies, justifies, and implements new equipment and automation technologies to improve profitability.
  • Interface with the department managers to support daily and weekly production requirements.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves product and production issues, including quality issues related to secondary processes, as they arise.
  • Interface with others (Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Molding, and Finishing) to assist with engineering changes related to existing programs and new project start-ups with transition into production. Function as a contributor to the APQP process.
  • Provide input into new product quotes where EOAT, or automation of secondary processing and/or assembly & test operations are required.
  • Development and implementation of product work instructions, workflow analysis, training procedures; reviewing and writing manufacturing related procedures as needed.
  • Design, procurement and construction of fixtures and tools necessary to produce customers’ products.
  • Performance of other duties and functions as assigned and necessary.

Engineering Manager

Requirements:

Education: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, or related engineering discipline is preferred. MET & EET education with significant experience will be considered as an alternative. Certification as a six sigma Green Belt or higher is a plus.


Knowledge:

Required:

  • 3D CAD Experience (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Knowledge of electro-mechanical assemblies, work cell organization and layouts, assembly procedures methods, tools, and fixtures to enhance the manufacturing and assembly of products.
  • Must have familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines for our industry.
  • Must have excellent computer skills and be conversant with Microsoft suite of products (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing (working human relations skills).
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of manufacturing processes (injection molding preferred), robotics, and various forms of automation.

Experience:

Required:

  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience of industrial automation and manufacturing cell layout.
  • Independent Judgment required. Performs duties with little supervision, regularly makes independent judgments regarding equipment, production, and personnel problems.
  • The role as Manufacturing Engineer requires creativity, collaboration, and leadership skills.

Desired:

  • Lean 5S experience a plus
  • Experience with Vision Inspection


Quality:

  • Follow regulatory, company and departmental procedures implicitly.
  • In the execution of the job function, the Manufacturing Engineer must focus on the quality aspect of all activities.
  • Each assigned activity has at least an indirect if not direct impact on the profitability of the department. Doing the job right the first time and in a timely manner is important to meeting management expectations.
  • The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the quality output of the manufacturing process. It should always be a goal to achieve zero defects on each job
  • Material loss on start-ups as well as production rejects must always be minimized.
  • Quality product delivered to Ferriot customers is the number one priority.


Physical Exertion: Routinely lifts 25 lbs. or more. Occasionally requires lifting of heavy items; job requires being on feet most of the shift, bends, twists, stoops, walks, lifts and extensively uses hands, wrists and shoulders, legs, waist, and back; uses hand/eye coordination to remove mold and operate tow motor; must work with and around heat and dusts; must be able to climb and work effectively at heights, in tight places, and uncomfortable positions. Must be able to exert enough pressure to tighten mold bolts, connections, and hook-ups.


Attendance: Must be in attendance on a regular full-time basis and conform to all Company attendance policies. Due to the leadership and directional nature of this position, attendance is of the upmost importance. The Manufacturing Engineer must be available and willing to work other shifts and additional hours (including weekends) as necessary/required.
