Key Responsibilities:

  • Estimate Preparation: Lead the preparation of detailed and accurate cost estimates for road construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Bid Management: Oversee the entire bidding process, from identifying opportunities and analyzing bid documents to preparing and submitting final bids.
  • Cost Analysis: Conduct comprehensive cost analysis, including quantity take-offs, to ensure that all aspects of the project are accurately accounted for.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of estimators, ensuring the development of junior staff and maintaining a high standard of work within the department.
  • Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination: Collaborate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain accurate pricing and ensure their qualifications meet project requirements.
  • Project Handover: Work closely with project managers and engineers to ensure a smooth transition from pre-construction to execution, providing necessary insights and cost data.
  • Market Research: Stay informed about market trends, material costs, and industry best practices to ensure competitive and realistic pricing strategies.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks in the estimating process and develop strategies to mitigate them, ensuring that estimates are both competitive and feasible.
  • Client Interaction: Engage with clients to clarify requirements, present estimates, and address any concerns or questions related to project costs.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in estimating within the road construction industry, with at least 5 years in a senior or lead estimator role.
  • In-depth knowledge of road construction methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., HCSS, HeavyBid) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform detailed and accurate cost analysis.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • A thorough understanding of construction contracts, specifications, and project delivery methods.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certifications such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or other relevant industry credentials.
  • Experience with large-scale public infrastructure projects, including DOT work.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations related to road construction.
