SARA is looking for a remarkably talented, motivated, and experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Coordinator to support activities out of our Colorado Springs location. The candidate will have the opportunity to grow and learn, supporting talented engineers, physicists, and technicians on long-standing programs and new programs supporting our customers.

The EH&S Coordinator will play an instrumental role in safeguarding employee health and safety through regulatory compliance, training, and risk assessment and management. The coordinator will be heavily involved in the day-to-day operations of the site and will communicate with all levels of employees on a regular basis.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and enforces employee health and safety programs and promotes safety awareness to minimize work-related injuries
  • Comprehends federal, state, and local safety regulations and ensures that the company is in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) guidelines
  • Drafts and updates safety training materials and trains staff on safety protocols and preventative measures
  • Runs risk assessments on workspaces and presents reports to safety managers
  • Assists with the implementation of new safety procedures
  • Performs root cause analysis on accidents and work hazards and proposes corrective actions
  • Performs risk assessments for processes and new equipment
  • Submits corrective solutions to risks while also making fiscal and operational considerations
  • Assists in safety and environmental activities and improvement projects as directed by manager
  • Informs managers and supervisors of regulatory changes with which the company must comply
  • Leads programs and policies to ensure compliance with environmental health and safety regulations
  • Collects, tracks, reports and analyzes the site's key environmental health and safety performance data and metrics
  • Reviews all injury/illness and non-injury incident investigation reports and follows-up as necessary
  • Assists in managing the site’s hazardous waste

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in EH&S, or a related field
  1. Experience may be considered in lieu of education
  • 2 years’ experience
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work well with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently and meet deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • May require moderate physical effort, involving standing, sitting and use of hands while performing duties, carrying or lifting up to 35 pounds
  • Working environment is indoor, moderately quiet, reasonably clean, well-lighted and well-ventilated, moderate physical hazards may exist
  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance, if needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with OSHA and EPA regulations, a manufacturing and/or research environment
  • Experience with Electrical safety

Pay Range:

Salary at SARA is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $28.75 to $34.75 (hourly USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of SARA’s total compensation package for employees.
