Responsibilities

At Parker Cornea, you'll be responsible for Patient Communication and Care. This includes:

  • Guiding patients through testing. You'll inform patients of the purpose of all tests personally performed and how they will be affected during the tests.
  • Obtaining patient history to include chief compliant, history of present illness, past history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general), and history of allergies and medications.
  • Performing accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks to include A-scans and visual fields.
  • Perform tests including fundus photography, OCTs, assessment of pupils, confrontation fields, anterior chamber depth, Topography, BAT (brightness acuity test), CST (contrast sensitivity test), Tonopen, Applanation, Pachymetry
  • Accurately documenting exam through scribing
  • Assisting in minor surgeries
  • Sterilization of instruments
  • Cleaning, stocking and opening/closing of exam and work up rooms
  • Maintaining clean work area
  • Helping and answering questions of other staff members
  • Helping in front office when needed


You will also triage patients, which includes:

  • Determining which patient should be next to be taken from the waiting room and to have testing initiated, escorting all patients from the waiting room for the data collection, and, following testing, advising the patient as to who will see them next while making them comfortable during the wait.
  • Maintaining a smooth flow of patients to the physician, altering the test sequence as required.
  • Communicating with coworkers to facilitate proper patient flow.


There will also be administrative tasks for which you are responsible, including:

  • Assisting with ordering and maintaining proper inventory of all patient care supplies


You may participate in in-office surgery, including:

  • Positioning patient appropriately
  • Preparing the surgical area utilizing aseptic technique
  • Administer intraoperative medications appropriately
  • Verify all implants with surgical staff
  • Actively participate in surgical prodedure while monitoring patients' needs
  • Ensure safe patient transport to post op area
  • Assist in room turnover
