Position Summary
The Voice Network Engineer is integral to enhancing our technical infrastructure as part of our digital transformation efforts. This role involves complex projects focused on the planning, design, installation, and level 3 technical support for voice and video technology solutions. Responsibilities include participation in strategic, capacity, and performance planning, as well as conducting network infrastructure security audits.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee the reliability of our enterprise voice communications network, which includes the installation, maintenance, and management of all related equipment (voice servers, gateways, PBX switches, phones, circuits, wiring, servers, backup systems, voice network management, and diagnostic tools).
- Lead and execute projects based on enterprise unified communications.
- Mentor and train junior engineers and technicians.
- Design and develop enhancements in Cisco unified communication architecture; troubleshoot issues; produce functional and technical documentation aligned with engineering specifications and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with vendors, clients, carriers, and technical staff on VoIP implementation, optimization, and management.
- Ensure the technical capabilities, stability, and performance of our systems.
- Provide recommendations for VoIP system enhancements.
- Maintain comprehensive technical documentation and ensure all activity is accurately logged in our tracking systems.
- Monitor compliance with internal policies and procedures related to design, programming, and applications.
- Manage performance, capacity, and quality of service, initiating preventative measures to mitigate potential issues.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned.
Skills, Education, & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Advanced certifications such as CCNA Voice, CCNP Voice, or CCIE Collaboration are strongly preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in VOIP, Call Manager, Unity, and voice gateways.
- Minimum of 5 years working closely with customer and client technical teams.
- Extensive experience in implementing and designing voice solutions, including domestic call routing on Cisco VG, CME, CUE, and CCM.
- Solid experience with Voice Cloud Technologies, WEBEX Video Conferencing technologies, and supporting contact centers.
- Proven track record in managing, supporting, and deploying network infrastructures.
- In-depth knowledge of network administration and architecture.
- Expertise in writing voice and network security policies, performing network analyses, and integrating voice recording with third-party solutions.
- Familiarity with basic LAN and WAN routing and switching, implementation, migration planning, and solution testing.
- Knowledge of QOS policies across enterprises for data, voice, and video solutions.
- Experience in developing and implementing disaster recovery plans.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Flexibility to work after hours, on weekends, and on-call rotations as needed.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
