Overview:
Our Fortune 200 client headquartered in Houston, Texas, is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Project Estimator to join an owner/operator for large capital-funded construction projects. The Project Estimator will play a crucial role in assessing project requirements, preparing accurate cost estimates, and supporting the planning and execution of construction projects. Specifically, this person will help in the creation of facilities and plants across the US. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of construction processes, and the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Teams: Work with project managers, engineers, and contractors to understand project scope, requirements, and objectives.
- Review Project Documents: Analyze project plans, specifications, and drawings to identify materials, labor, and equipment needs.
- Prepare Cost Estimates: Conduct thorough analysis of project components to prepare detailed cost estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead expenses.
- Utilize Estimating Software: Use industry-standard estimating software and tools to develop accurate project cost projections.
- Support Procurement: Work closely with procurement teams to obtain quotes and pricing for materials and subcontractor services.
- Bid Preparation: Provide support during bid preparation and proposal development processes.
- Monitor Estimates: Continuously monitor and update cost estimates throughout the project lifecycle, incorporating any changes or modifications.
- Value Engineering: Assist in value engineering efforts to identify cost-saving opportunities without sacrificing quality or performance.
- Risk Management: Collaborate with internal project controls and risk review teams to identify and quantify relevant cost impacts on a per-project basis.
- Data Management: Build a central data warehouse to house actual costs for construction projects, and to build an estimating model for conceptual project development.
- Communication: Communicate cross-functionally and to senior leadership on key performance indicators related to estimate vs. actualized cost.
- Leadership Potential: Potential to be a team lead, combining an estimating and cost focus.
Must-Haves
- Experience: Prior construction estimating experience (3-5 years).
- Skills: Strong experience in putting together proformas and cross-functional teaming.
- Knowledge: Proven experience as a project estimator in the construction industry, with a strong track record of producing accurate cost estimates.
- Expertise: In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, and best practices.
- Software Proficiency: Proficiency in construction estimating software and tools such as Procore, Microsoft Suite, and Coupa.
- Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex project requirements and specifications.
- Detail-Oriented: Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Communication: Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred.

- Additional Skills: Experience in budgeting, accounting, and contracting.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator) are a plus.
