Our client is seeking an experienced Front End Engineer to serve as the tech lead, primary developer, and maintainer of their shared component library. This role will be pivotal in ensuring high-quality interfaces across all products, leading a team in translating visual designs into interactive, responsive, and accessible React components. Reporting to the Director of Technology, the Front End Engineer will support various departmental initiatives, acting as a development liaison with the UI/UX design team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead development and maintenance of the shared component library.
  • Translate visual design specifications into interactive and responsive React components.
  • Establish development practices for component usage and updates.
  • Collaborate closely with UI/UX designers to ensure technical feasibility and design accuracy.
  • Contribute to UI/UX design efforts and make design decisions as needed.
  • Participate in team meetings, code reviews, and continuous improvement of development processes.
  • Engage in R&D efforts for new products and features.
  • Produce and maintain quality documentation on component usage.
  • Write clean, efficient, and maintainable CSS and JavaScript code.
  • Optimize web applications for speed, scalability, and cross-browser performance.
  • Ensure compliance with accessibility and usability standards.
  • Work with backend developers to integrate frontend components with REST APIs.
  • Interact with stakeholders to understand requirements and ensure successful implementations.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and technologies to keep products competitive.

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience in web development.
  • Expertise in modern CSS techniques and implementation of adaptive designs.
  • Strong knowledge of accessibility standards and compliance.
  • Extensive experience with ReactJS, Typescript, Next.js, Storybook, and Emotion.
  • Familiarity with modern UI libraries such as MUI.
  • Understanding of full-cycle web applications and cloud environments, particularly AWS.
  • Proficiency with Git, JIRA, Confluence, and other collaboration tools.
  • Strong understanding of RESTful APIs and experience with containerized environments.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration skills, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with automated testing frameworks, security best practices, and industry trends.

Pluses:

  • Experience in educational technology or special education web applications.
  • Expertise with ADA or other compliance standards.
  • Experience with React Admin, Symfony, and CMS platforms like Drupal or WordPress.
  • Familiarity with third-party identity providers (e.g., Okta) and strict privacy regulations (e.g., FERPA).
  • Passion for research and development in diverse technologies, with experience in TDD, data visualization, and web-based interactive interfaces.
