Job Description


The Digital Strategy team works across a portfolio of global customer-centric challenges, along with regional, technical and functional teams across Brambles


As a member of that team, we are looking for a motivated individual to lead on establishing and embedding a system of excellence that allows Brambles Digital to fast-track and build at scale a global testing capability of Tracking Technologies (hardware and software)


You'll be focused on the ‘so-what’ in terms of providing clarity on commercial options and engage with 3rd party OEMs (under testing) to discuss in detail the potential ‘buy vs. build vs. partner’ options on behalf of Brambles Digital


You'll also closely collaborate with our Tracking Technology Lead and draw on learnings to date across other internal teams that have developed our in-house front-end hardware devices (Ultra etc.) and back-end software (BRIX) to cross-pollinate ideas and stand-up an enterprise-wide capability


Key Accountabilities


Team Leadership: Lead a team that’s responsible for the following:

  • Define and outline key priority areas with respect to 3rd party testing (e.g. battery tech beyond Lithium-Ion / Location mapping services / Improving the precision of device locations etc.)
  • Creation of sandboxed environments for testing of 3rd party tracking technologies at scale
  • To ensure the resources identified and dedicated to Tracking Tech R&D on focused on and spending 100% of their time against the same
  • Engage in regular inputs and intelligence gathering from internal (Brambles Hardware teams, DCS Customer facing teams etc.) and external (industry / trade bodies, external aggregators) sources on innovation in the Tracking Tech field and verify its applicability into our existing use cases
  • Perform extensive testing activities, from stand-alone software test to field test in dedicated industrial environments or via simulations and across different environmental situations in collaboration with external engineering labs and dedicated internal resources
  • React to device performance data and other feedback from field deployments of Ultras and compare that to observable data from testing of 3rd party devices to provide point to point comparison between the two
  • Outline the business case for ‘buy vs. build vs. partner’ across the different 3rd party tracking tech solutions and drive initial commercial viability discussions on Brambles’ behalf
  • Collaborate with the Brambles Digital Corporate Development team and Tracking Tech team on mapping the market and proactively engaging possible targets for acquisition (hardware or software) for integration into Brambles Roadmap
  • Create the end to end integration plan and transfer for implementation to the wider Tracking Tech teams any 3rd party tech stack (hardware and software) for it integration into Brambles’ environment
  • Coordinate with Finance and Procurement teams to ensure our overall spend on Tracking Tech R&D is in line with plans for FY and also provide for any audit / legal review the required documentation


Personal: Coordinate closely with the Senior Director, Tracking Technology on mapping out key areas of development of the existing technology focus areas for Asset Tracking

  • Clear articulation of areas of focus with 3rd parties (new tech stacks) and minimise the overlap with internal development focus areas already in-flight
  • Provide inputs into the roadmap on how to deliver on performance criteria for the Tracking Tech (indigenous as well as 3rd party enabled) so that Brambles is delivering on the required KPIs on performance alongside cost considerations in a scaled deployment environment
  • Implement processes that improve early vetting of concepts and retain ownership of the overall testing roadmap for 3rd party tech
  • Contribute actively as an SME on innovation in tracking technology to give Brambles Digital an advantage in this Space


SME: Build and foster subject matter expertise within the organization in key areas of advanced sensors, IoT connectivity technologies, and energy systems

  • Perform critical review of results produced by the Tracking Tech R&D team ensuring consistent execution against 3rd party R&D program goals and objectives
  • Develop and track detailed specifications, designs and results across tests conducted


Collaboration: Work closely with Brambles Digital product management and development teams for platform and application development where it aligns against the 3rd party testing environment


Experience

  • 10+ years of experience developing hardware systems, ideally in the IoT and specifically hardware tracking domains across multiple end industry domains
  • Success in testing and supporting the commercial rollout of 3rd party developed devices into customer environments
  • At least 5+ years of management and administration of portfolio, project and product management solutions such as: OnePlan, JIRA/Confluence, Azure DevOps etc.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills – can demonstrate evidence of developing and maintaining strong and effective relationships with internal and external senior stakeholders
  • Strong capability evidenced across commercial and technical areas focused on IoT

Base pay range is $150,000 to $210,000 annually.
